I've got a question. I have a V400 and keep having dropped calls. I've had some reception problems in my area in the past, usually things are great, but every now and then, it's horrible. I've been getting a lot of dropped calls and earlier, I had 4 within 2 hours. I've told Cingular about this and they send out an update and tell me to shock the phone by removing the battery while it's on. I did that yesterday, before the 4 droppped calls. In the past, I was picking up signal from a tower that was about 6 hours south of me, and no one knows why. Another funny thing that happened was that I called 611 and got T-Mobile's help desk. Maybe I was using their tower, but I was at home where I've called Cingular's help desk from before. I ...

as far as the reception issue, it could be any number of things. what zip code do you live in. someone could check your coverage there to start with. (i have a 3 day weekend, so i cant check 😎 )
sounds to me like the billing issues ultimately got resolved, but stuff happens from time to time. usually your best course of action is to go back to the rep that sold you the service, as they have a personal interest in keeping you happy. as much as we hate dealing with billing issues in the store, we usually catch the problem and can refer you to the right place or person to rectify things.

Thanks, I just changed that. I'll see how that works. The problem is, it doesn't happen all the time. Last night, I had 5 dropped calls, all in a row. Sometimes, I don't have any.

Well, I did that, and I'm still having dropped calls. I emailed Cingular and they gave me the warranty # to call. Called them, and I keep getting disconnected. I called Cingular Customer Support and they tell me that's expected with any service provider, which, to me, is unacceptable. Not after this long a time. If cell phones were just starting out, sure, but not 20 years later. I called my friend with another service provider and she said she never gets dropped calls. Pretty interesting, if you ask me.
...
well, when you have dropped calls it dont mean that its your phone dropping the calls
who are you talking to when the calls drop? maybe it is their service thats dropping.
...
It drops with anyone. Cingular, Sprint, and T-Mobile people. I normally don't call landlines, so I'm not sure how it'll work with that. And since it's not an all the time thing, it's hard to really pinpoint it. The calls, when dropping, usually drop at the 10 min. mark.

Yeah, the billing did get solved, but after a lot of calls being placed, arguing, and emailing. The rep said it was an obvious mistake, so i...

😕 I work for the company and have the same phone. Lately I've been having the same problem with my V400 and it's starting to piss me off 👿 I love the V400 but if this persist I may go to my other favorite manufacturer NOKIA and look into a 6620 or 6230. My V551 works beautifully so I don't understand it either. Five bars and a dropped call don't compute.
...
Exactly, that's what irks me so. When my calls are dropped, I usually get silence, then a second of noise, then they're gone. When I look at the phone, there are either none or 1 bar, then it shoots back up. Very annoying. Last night, when I heard the silence, I tried ending my call, and it wouldn't even end. Maybe it's a problem with my particular phone. I even closed it and the timer was still running. I emailed Cingular and they said I can send mine back if it's less than 365 days old to get a replacement. Guess I'll be backing everything up tonight.

I have the same problem as well here in NYC where I make a call and its fine for 2 minutes and suddenly the call is dropped and I look at my phone (moto V551) and apparantly the bars go from 5 when not in call to a 2-3 when you are in call and then finally a 1 to which my call then drops and then the bars go back up to 5... WTF? I had T-mobile before and it was not as bad as this, after this contract I'm going back to T-mobile..

You can try changing the network settings. Go into menu, settings, network settings and if you are on automatic, change it to 850/1900. That has helped alot in my market (philadelphia), if that does not work, I would go into a local COR store and have them check your current IRDB setting through a program called card, and make sure you are up to date... And last case situation, maybe the phone is defective, and in that case you can call XBM, (800)801-1101... I hope that helps some. 😁

😕 Did all that; I'm afraid the MOTOROLA V400 just sucks. Now I know what the customers are talking about in regards to thuis phone 😡 At least it's better than an LG phone but still to have 5 bars and have your call drop is infuriating. Thank God I'm not on contract 😈

i had a v400 for a year, and had no problems

😡 Mine lasted about nine months before it went crazy. I had a NOKIA 3595 dropped it, got it wet, let the kids play with it and never had any problems. Like I said I love my V400 when it's acting right, but I'm seriously considering the NOKIA 6620 or 6230.

Having five bars doesn't necessarily mean great RF. I've seen a Sanyo 5300 with five bars drop call after call after call. Network problems boyo...

My calls usallly last 10 minutes then drop. When I posted the original post, they were lasting around 2. I did switch my network from auto to 850/1900 and so far so good. But, in the past, it would last quite a while w/out any problems and then bam! Guess I'll have to wait and see.

I emailed Cingular as well as calling them and they told me that there is no problem in there network. They said it was either my phone or my surroundings. Well I live on the freakin 35th floor and basically its the tall red building in Chinatown and while I was with T-mobile, nothing like this happened. I did change my settings from auto to 850/1900 but still something else is not right cause all my other friends who have cingular as well have the same problem in Chinatown, however if they are or I am out of Chinatown the call quality is great and never a dropped call. hmmm... Maybe cingular doesn't like Chinese people?? lolz... well that's my rant...
