I don't have a media plan, but If I want to send a picture is that cost .25 per message?
How much is a short video message? 270kb is the file size that I was going to send.
Thanks
...
MMS period... meaning picture, 15 second or less of video, sounds, whatever, are $0.25 each... BUT if you plan on doing them alot, why not sign up for the $4.99 MMS plan that gives you unlimited MMS from now until the end of the year. After 12/31/2005 it reverts to 40 MMS per month π (I am so a sales person, sorry to pitch it on here!)
...
I believe the MMS's can only be so big before they charge you per kb. It's a rate of 2-3 cents per kb.
Since he doesnt have the MMS I think it will charge him the full 270 * (lets say 2 cents) = $5.40 to send it.
...
Nope, it is defeinitely just the $0.25... An MMS can only be up to a certain size, you can't send over that size...
...
How is it definately the .25 cents if he can't send over a certian KB. I believe the kb size is 100K.
This doesn't even matter considering he doesn't even have a Media Net package. He will be charged the .02 cents per kilo since he doesn't have a package. It will be charged the same way as if he had a POP email account set up on his phone and was checking his email without a Media package. It will just charge him .02 cents a kilo.
Him sending that video would be the same as him download a file from his email. It's all data transfer.
...
I am pretty sure that I am right though...
...
PRETTY SURE.?????? I know from expirence.
How can you say it will only charge him the .25, and how can you say it will only let him send a certian amount of data?
His file is 270K. I know that the limit for MMS is well below that. So according to you how will it even let him send it?
...
If it is higher than the max kb, then he wouldn't be able to send it. The max kb on an mms is 100 kb, so if it 270 kb then he could send it through email, and be charged either the old rate at $0.01/kb if he is on the old plan, or if he is on the new plan it would be at $0.03/kb.
...
So then why did you reply to his question if you knew right off that it was 270K and tell him that he could send it for .25?
And you said you were right?
You said you were in sales, or CS? Either way it's people like you that misinform people and then they get huge bills. Lets say he sent it to 10 people at 10 different times. If he listened to you he would expect a charge of 2.50 when he actually would of been charged 54.00!!!!!
Then when they do get the bill in call into CS, they will tell them well you used it so pay up....or just hang up on him
...
I just found out the max by trying it on my phone... I was not misinforming either... I was stating that it if was higher than the max on an MMS it would not allow you to send it... It would just say that it was larger than could be sent. And I work in sales, not CS and also if you look at previous posts, I try to help, not mislead... I said what I knew... I am sorry if that offended you that I did not know the max though.
...
I was more giving your sheit than truely beitching at you
=)
...
Okay... Well I fixed it though! π
...
It's cool everyone... I think that I changed a setting on my phone to allow longer video. But still there was only 5 secs. But I just remembered, I also changed the it to the highest quality, so that it why it is so big.
(Treo 650)
...
Yeah that will do it too.
...
I wanna weigh in with my 2 cents if I may..he can still send the video and it not cost him any KB usage if he uses the dialup portion of the modem instead of the GPRS..it will only use up his minutes, but if he does it after a time when its free airtime then it is naturally free..however, it will be a slower process in sending it..he can just send it as an email and instead of using the MediaNet connection, use the Home (its called Home on the Nokias so it may not be that on the Treo)..dont you agree Jackie??

I don't know about you guys, but I can't get CSD to work.... ever.
...
Yeah, but it is $3.99 a month to have CSD as a back up, unless you are grandfathered in with it for free... Besides if it is on a 650, I would store it to the MMC card, then transfer it to your computer... Hope that helps a bit! π
...
I guess I am grandfathered in. I just used my CSD last night and it worked fine. It always does
...
Thanks for your help. I do store it to the card and transfer it to the computer. But I wanted to send a short video to my daughter.
There was a lot of help with this and I thank all that replied. But what did we determine? Is it .25 per mms or is it .25 plus .02 or .03 per kb after 100kb. I'm so confused! π
...
It is absolutely positively .25 per MMS without a package..if your phone will allow you to send it as an MMS (some phones won't) then it will cost .25
Here is an example..if I try to send a picture and it is over the 100KB size, my phone will resize it in order to let it go through. Now if it is so large that even resizing won't help, then it will not go through.
Do you know how to use the CSD portion of that particular phone you have?
...
I am not familiar with the email client of the Treo, but my Nokia has a setting which will allow me either to use a GPRS connection or a pre-programmed connection called Home..it is a data call and only uses airtime minutes (but if its after 9pm it is obviously free) and it is a slower transfer rate than GPRS..its used as a backup to GPRS..however, a rep said you had to have that on your account in order to use that as a backup..Jackie can tell you more about that than me..
...
The video will send as a MMS for $0.25... No KB charges because it will only allow you to send up to a certain size...

on a side note, CSD is VERY slow (9.6k), and is soon to be dicontinued. i dont even think the codes to add it are still around. if they are, they are probobly in the expired pool.
...
If it is discontinued, does that mean those who have it now will lose it? I agree it is slow, but it does help in certain situtions..

it will actually be gone altogether in the near future from what i was told. maybe they'll shut em don by market if they notice certain markets still use it. there really is no need for it since GPRS is 6x faster.
...
Well on my 6620 I use an email program I bought, and in certain cases when the GPRS network is down and I want to check email, its sufficient enough to do that..and it would have helped that guy with the Treo send that video he wanted..so IMO it has its positives in certain situations..
...
Holy he** people.....
Justin, Jackie is a very knowledgable salesperson and she is extremely helpful. I have dealt with her extensively and read a ton of her posts on here. She would never misinform anyone. She just states what she knows, and if she doesn't know something, she will be the first one to admit it.
and Justin, you are also very helpful (thanks for that unlock code again), but it doesn't look too good when you are deliberately contradicting someone within your own company instead of working together to get to a solution.
...
From what i was told, any MMS messages are .25 and that's it. you only pay the .03/kb if you are attaching it and sending it as an E-mail.
And the network can handle up to 10 second video clips as of now.
again, this is what i was TOLD at my last training. i don't get a bill π , so i couldn't tell you 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt for sure. but if it wasn't the case, i'm sure i would have more people in my store complaining about high bills.
...
mms doesn't charge by the kb, just per message.
...
πActually it's $.25 as even a video msg is considered an MMS msg.
...
Thanks for the info. I took about a 5 second video, but it said the size was 270kb so I was afraid to send it. I thought it was going to cost .03 per kb
...
I couldn't remeber if it was 2 or 3 cents. I think its three though...
...
Jackie, sign me up for that. No one told me about that one....
You should have my wireless number so you can access my account.

...

...
