Att_user04

I purchased the Motorola Q9h Global Last November. Don't ask me why I purchased it, cuz win mo is horrible. Now I really want the iphone, and I don't have a upgrade till December. What is the best way of getting one, and I don't think it's that great of a phone to pay full price. Any idea's or help

Thanks

Call AT&T from your cell at 611,
when prompter begins talking press 1
wait and the hit zero three times.

When agent comes on the line,
verify information,
and promptly inform that you are wishing to cancel and want to speak with the SAVE department, and no you don't want want to talk to that agent about it.
When SAVE comes on the line,
tell them that you are going to cancel because your phone isn't working right,
they will upgrade you to a new one and ship it to you with no fees and no mail in rebates,
note that they can't sell the iphone, so you have to buy a different phone, i recommend the Samsung Jack with is $84 with tax.
Phone will arrive in 3-4 business days, DO NOT ACTIVATE, take recept and phone to corporate store and ...

To all other posters,
I realize that many might think this is an unjust way of helping him out, but it's a clear policy loophole with AT&T, and he will spend more in the long run with the iPhone so it's a win-win for us, that's why i'm giving him this method.

Great Idea, but it won't work. The only way it will work is if you manage for find a corporate store location with a complete idiot as a manager (which there are several). If you go to a store with a manager with any level of competence at all they will catch it, flag his account, and the customer is screwed.

Your little "loophole" isn't a policy loophole, its just taking advantage of people who don't know how to do their job and will take incorrect actions that violate ATT's policy simply b/c they are incompetent.`

Do you work for AT&T?

I have people do this all the time, and there is never any trouble with it. As long as SAVE approves it, and then the customer isn't happy with the phone, they're free to return it. There is nothing wrong with this, and a look at this account won't prove that there is.

He could also be honest and just pay the early upgrade price for the phone.

Nah, that would never happen in today's market. ^_^

He should just wait the five months to his upgrade. that will be the cheapest way. in the meantime, he should play with the iPhone in stores to make sure he really wants it.

Yes I do, and have seen this happen multiple times and have seen it caught 9 times out of 10.

That doesn't matter. There is no policy against it. It's a legimate request. Customer isn't happy with phone, SAVE gives new one, isn't happy with the phone can return within thirty days. Who cares if you caught it? There is no policy stating that it can't be done.

Actually there is a policy against it. The iPhone policy clearly states that the customer must be eligible for a standard upgrade (not an exception upgrade or special offer from save/customer service) to recieve the full discounted pricing. If the customer recieved a "special" deal for an early upgrade on another device, if the customer wishes to exchange it for an iPhone they would have to pay the exception pricing, given that is what they would have qualified for.

Any store or customer service manager worth anything knows this, and would catch this right away by looking at previous contracts/upgrade dates. I know this b/c in my position with ATT I have dealt with these exact types of scenarios on numerous occasions.

Well I've never heard of this policy, and I apologize if it is real, but I have seen too many stores that allow this to believe it. I'm talking at least 10 stores, and they are worth something, I know the employees and managers.

He is saying that, but I've seen it done plenty of times. The choice is yours, but you should be fine. You can always do it and if the store refuses, just send the original phone back to the SAVES and wait till Dec.
Good Luck!

or you could add a line and buy the iphone for that line so then you would get the iphone at the upgrade price and if you knew someone who needed a phone you could give them the additional line

Hey, December will be here before you know it. I say, just wait it out and get it for yourself as a Hannakuh present.
