Maybe?

Maybe if you guys are patient things may get better.

The iPhone 3GS has been a huge hit for AT&T, and although they aren't saying how many customers they've stolen from other carriers, AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega said they had "hundreds of thousands" of pre-orders.

That puts a lot of pressure on AT&T's network (which we reviewed recently), but the carrier is ready for it, AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said. They're doing three major things to improve their coverage and speeds, one of which will have a huge positive effect on coverage in cities like New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

That major upgrade is known as "3G on 850 Mhz." In busy cities, some dropped calls and signal problems come because the 1900 M

I agree, we have to be patient and wait for AT&T to get it together. I can't be easy to add more than twice the capacity of any 3G network throughout the US, while still maintaining, upgrading and deploying other 3G markets

yeah, I know I've bagged on ATT allot but I do like GSM phones for the ease of changing phones.
And if you want somewhat of a large coverage area in the US with a GSM carrier ATT is pretty much it.
But, man I sure hope they get their network issues worked out in NY. Sounds like it's horrible out there for ATT subscribers.

I have had echo problems with my AT&T service on and off since May. I use a Blackberry Bold and had great service and loved the phone from Nov till May then everything fell apart. Not to go into details but the tech support system is a fiasco! My issue is clearly a network issue but the first layer of customer service always wants to replace my Blackberry and has done it twice in the last six weeks. Always at least an hour on the phone, their notes are always incomplete and they have the nerve to leave voicemail messages telling me that my troubles have been resolved and close my Trouble Ticket when my trouble is far from resolved. I even had a very nervy customer service agent tell me, "On the back of your contract it states that your ph...

Yeah, GSM carriers sometimes get echos while CDMA carriers sometimes get the digitized sound.
Do you get the echo with bluetooth, wired headset?
Do you have a mouth full of metal? 😛
Just kidding.

There is a huge reason of why AT&T does not have the network capacity to handle the amount of traffic on there network.

I worked for AT&T Wireless at the end of 2003 till early mid 2004. This is when LNP first happened. People were so upset that AT&T took 5 to 7 days and often longer for people to port there number in and out. I was hired to work for AT&T specifically to help out with LNP.

I would ask my superiors all the time why it took so long for the ports to take place. They would always say that every carrier was having this problem because it was new and a lot of people were taking there numbers everywhere.

I don't know about sprint and Cingular at the time, But Verizon Wireless was getting there ports completed between 1...

i totally agree with you. GSM is global and they have so many phones out there.. some looks like a small candy bar to a versace and such. GSM baby! i love the gsm and the freedom of sim cards.

So is LTE use sim cards? like GSM.

I went to a verizon store and i see phones made by UTStarcom and kyocera.. LOL!!! 😲

Yes LTE uses SIM cards... Verizon already said they will have SIM cards. And we don't sale Kyocera anymore. It's been 2-3 years. And UTStarcom makes GSM phones. What do you think the AT&T Quickfire is?

Plenty of messaging phones have come our way lately, with clamshell models like the LG Lotus from Sprint to square slider models like the Verizon Wireless Blitz. All of them come with full QWERTY keyboards to facilitate easier texting, and some of them have more features than others. But the new AT&T Quickfire (made by UTStarcom and distributed by PCD) takes it up a notch with not only a full QWERTY keyboard, but a touch-screen interface as well. And not just any touch screen, either; the Quickfire uses a capacitive touch screen, similar to the one used on the Apple iPhone and the T-Mobile G1, which results in a very intuitive and responsive experience. And I never said they didn't make CDMA phones. I said they make GSM phones. I'm surprised kyocera is still in business. I think they only make PCS phones now, I could be wrong, but I think they do. This is why Verizon doesn't sell them anymore.

my opinion, the only brands to go for is.. RIM ( blackberry), apple products, HTC, and samsung. they have been really good and nokia too!!

but it seems like CDMA phones are bigger, thicker.. oh well. kyocera needs to quit making phones.

What is LNP?

It was nice to read a post that was honest, and made mention of both ATT and Verizon without sounding like some doped up craZy fanboy as a lot of people on Phone Scoop sound like. Very refreshing to read an honest post.

I'm referring to where you wrote that Verizon is proactive, and ATT is reactive.

And it seems to me that the new AT&T has picked up some of the old AT&T's bad habits, such as being reactive instead of proactive. Back in the days of Cingular, we had better quality network service especially prior to the Cingular/ATTWS merger. My very first cell phone was a Cingular Wireless cellphone and I had flawless coverage. Now with the new AT&T it just isn't the same anymore. I do like the new branding of the new AT&T, but unfortunately I think the company has been slacking a little to save money and it's showing with their current network quality.

I was sad to see the old AT&T go away in 04 and 05, but the new AT&T needs to improve or it will suffer the same fate in the future.

T-Mobile is great for people who don't travel. They have horrible rural coverage, but are better in places AT&T is having lots of trouble. NYC, Cali, etc.

I hear Vodafone is. Vodafone is the 2nd largest network in the world.

verizon needs to switch to GSM. forreals. vodafone is a really good company, there really competitive against t-mobile germany. but my parents have vodafone in london now and they love it. T-mobile is like att here and vodafone like verizon over there. vodafone needs to implement GSM for verizon or something...

and t-mobile is really good, my friend has them and it works everywhere for them. who cares about rural lol. i dont go camping or have hillbilly family lol!!!!

Did you know we are owned 45% by Vodafone? There have been "talks" of Verizon (later on) changing the Verizon Wireless name to Vodafone, but Vodafone would need to own a higher % of Verizon Wireless. I doubt this happening, but LTE is the first steps of Verizon becoming a world slandered. Were already the 10th largest Wireless network in the world.

And i'm pretty sure verizon is a good company, but for my needs i need GSM and i like buying unlocked phones from home (london) and using them here. i have the N97, cmon now! lol.

AT&T's second coverage move is to add 2100 cell sites and to beef up the backhaul (wired Internet connections) on their cell sites to accommodate the additional iPhone traffic, Siegel said.

Also ATT claims the Iphone 3GS is they're only 7.2 capable phone, not true, the HTC Fuze is also 7.2 capable. Besides what the heck is the frinkin point in being 7.2 capable, when end-user speeds on handsets that are 3.6 don't even achieve speeds of 1.8!!!!!

Really, is 7.2 anything to be excited about when end user speed isn't even a quarter of that? That's just my feelings as to why ATT and Verizon so called mobile broadband isn't worth $60/mo.

I don't think it's 2100 as in 2100MHz, I think it's 2100 as in {1,2,3...2099,2100}.

While I agree with you complaint that they can't even do 1.8 megabits, the point of mobile broadband isn't necessarily the speed but the ability to use it ostensibly where I happen to be.

AT&T is pretty variable where I travel. In Toledo, OH, I routinely get 1.5 megabits. Downtown Detroit, closer to 600 kilobits/s. Yet the $30 a month I pay for my data is worth it because I like the convenience of having the internet in my pocket. Is it close to being like my computer on wifi at home? Hell no. But then I'm willing to cede to the compromise. It sure beats *no* access, especially when it comes in handy.

Here's what I do, I have the $10 data plan on my acct, and I downloaded an app on my Nokia N95 that lets me us it as a WiFi hotspot, then I can connect using my laptop, and I'm all set.
I'm in Las Vegas, speeds here are definetly not consistent. And I almost never get more than 1.5mbps. I'm really, really looking forward to 3G on the 850 band coming to Las Vegas. Hopefully it won't be too, too much longer.
