att_iphoneAnother point worth pulling out from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster’s recent research note about Apple, this one regarding AT&T’s iPhone-exclusivity deal: Munster doesn’t see it lasting much beyond this year. Apple (AAPL) is slowly transitioning the countries in which it sells the iPhone to a multicarrier model and the United States is at the top of its list.

“We expect Apple to add new iPhone carriers in the U.S. within the next year (likely ...

As the iPhone exclusivity period rolls off between AT&T Wireless and Apple, a material number of AT&T customers will flock to Verizon’s superior network. We estimate that nearly a third of AT&T’s post-paid customers are being retained by AT&T primarily because of the iPhone exclusivity.”

Thats a bold statement. So one is to believe that around 20 million people will leave att next year.

I doubt it will be that large. Many people wont' leave for the following reasons.

1. Multi-Line ETF fees
2. Mobile to Mobile calling
3. They were already with at&t before the iphone
4. Network improvements within a year.

I'm sure some will defect and that might actually be a good thing. With less traffic burdening 3g it should probably perform better.

I hope AT&T's exclusivity ends. I am stingy, I want AT&T's network all to myself. Leave, you iPhone basterds, LEAVE!

You guys don't get it. if At&t got their crap together and updated the network all at once when 3G was first launched and not waited till now to roll out the 850 band then the media and all other outlets like CNET would not slam AT&T from a crappy network. AT&T is the cause for the congestion not us iPhone owners. We are the ones that have been ripped off.

I agree. When Verizon Wireless gets the Iphone, they will still have no problem adding an extra 2 to 5 million on their network for data and voice. Verizon Wireless is prepared for this. Unlike At&t who is not. Lets see Iphone owners still cannot use MMS. The reset of the carriers in the world that sell Iphones can.....hmmmmmmm seems like a problem with AT&T Wireless
