Its actually more of a tradeoff than an acquisition. Cingular says "I want more Virginia territory". So Suncom agrees to give them the VA customers in exchange for the former ATTWS Carolina customers and towers. Cingular already had towers and customer in the Carolinas, so it was simple. Give up half of the new double coverage (Cingular + ATTWS) to get a market untouched by the orange evil (my loving employer 😁 ). It sucks for the customers but its a very savvy business move.
