Does anyone know what's wrong with the Moto MPX 220? I have received emails saying that we dont/can't order that phone due to "quality issue" What is that quality issue?

It's a motorola....Need you ask anymore??? 😈

Just couldn't resist. Seriously, I have read that there have been issues with it, however, I didn't hear anything so bad that it would cause a discontinuation or recall. Then again, I don't work in the wireless industry, so I wouldn't know that much.

Once again, I searched Cingular's website for this and did not find my answer. And coming from VZW where I am used to the shortest night/weekend time known to man, I wanted to find out what Cingular's billing practices are. I am accostumed to being billed for everything in the world, so I am not used to having more liberties now that I am with Cingular.

The only thing I heard about the mpx220 was that it had issues with certain 64k sim cards. It was causing the voicemail number to turn into 0000000000 and locking up the phone, or something like that. As long as you used the sims with sku ending with an "a", you were fine or activating it with a 32k sim, you would be fine. Other then that, couldnt tell ya.

All of the axalto cards are 64k, and the 64K are what you would want to use, don't waste your time with the 32.

The main problem in this situation was SIM cards ending with "G", manufactured by Gemplus, would cause those problems in Treo 650's, and it affected 30-40% of them. These SIMs also did affect any current motorola phones, but not with the voicemail. It greatly affected the connectivity to towers however, and they need to be replaced. Replacing the SIM with one that ends in "a" will fix the problem. Cingular has switched the main provider of SIM cards to Axalto, hopefully preventing this sort of thing from happening again.

The quality issue in question is regarding the software controlling mainly the earpiece volume. The max volume is considered subpar, definitely. Instead of recalling, Motorola opted just to start producing MPX's with newer software, and any warranty claims/ returns would be flashed with updated software. Honestly, we've had more problems with the new software with earpiece volume and ring volume. With this happening, Motorola has scrapped the MPX220 for the most part and has opted to replace it with the MPX230 I do believe. Look for it in the lineup within the next month, or when your markets stock of MPX220's runs dry.
