Sorry for those who read this thinking this was some info about the a630 release but its not...

Like I mentioned before I am new to GSM. I noticed on ebay some people are selling unlocked QUAD BAND a630s. They claim the 850mhz/1900,hz is unlocked. This means that its pretty much a Cingular phone and shouldnt have any problems working on the Cingular network right?

That means you can put a sim card into it and use it on anyone's network but you might have issues with certain features on the phone. Also if you have any problems with it Cingular won't be able to help you very much because it isnt one of our phones.

Let the buyer beware, there are no quad-band A630s. Only tri-band.

Well i thought that too but they have provided pictures that show the 850mhz/1900mhz band unlocked. Thats why Im curious. Just go to ebay and type in "a630 quad band" and see for yourself

Looks like a T-mobile box to me. T-mobile phones will not capture 800mhz. What you have there is false advertising.

"seem editing"???

I assume you mean SIM editing. But then, pardon my ignorance, as I must inquire as to what exactly Sim editing is??? 😕

with a usb cable and certain programs, you can change a phone's embedded settings. i dont know much about it, but it involves the downloading, editing, and uploading of files (whose extension is ".seem") from the phone. these "seem edits" can increase volume, unlock frequency bands, lock and unlock features, improve battery performance, and the such. it's not difficult to find a guide or tutorial on the net, but dealing with firmware is always dangerous: a single mistake (of yours or the guide's author) can badly mess up your phone.

What he is talking about is "hacking" the phone, now if you have some one who knows what they are doing it can work fine, some I know in my call center has a AWS Nokia 6800 on a roger network in canada, If they dont know what they are doing you end up with a useless peice of metal and plastic

yeah: it's not recommended for most. and im not saying we all should do it.

my point was that there indeed are tmobile-branded a630s out there that possess quadband capability--that the ebay sellers mentioned earlier in this thread arent necessarily making false claims.

One of the main reasons that Cingular has decided to not go ahead with the A630 is the 850 RF (radio frequency) issue, which while you would be able to use the 850 band, the reliability on it would stink.

Just to be sure, there would be signal issues if I were to get this phone in an unlocked version?

Not that its unlocked, as far as I know there is no quad band version, unless it is a protype. And yes if it has the 850 you will have the same reception issues that most had on the V600.
