Dear Cingular Reps-
I am need of some imediate assistance! i have a customer who signed up for Cingular in a different city than where I am at. He moved to my area where Cingular does not offer local numbers or very good service at all yet. He wants to switch to T-mobile (due to lack of options) and still use his Treo 650 for T. I have tried to sell him every phone equivelant to the 650 that T-Mobile has but he says no, he says "find a way to use my 650 (he means unlock) for T-Mobile and I will send a business to you to activate all their phones through you." Needless to say, I am trying my hardest to find a way to unlock his 650. Can anyone help me PLEASE?! I will be forever in your debt if you can. Thank you so much

OK, to get the unlock code (if there is one, I don't know off-hand if they're available), he has to cancel his account AND pay the ETF to get the unlock code. Or, if he's wanting to 'roam internationally', if he has the feature/capability active and is active for 90+ days, he can get the code so he can use a prepaid SIM overseas.

Yes that is they way to do it by follwing Policy and Procedure from Cingular which would be the best way to do it.

There is only one problem that I think might occur. He has only had Cingular for 31 days, and since he is in an area where Cingular cannot provide local service for him, they are not going to charge him an ETF and if what you say is true about policy, there isn't any way the Cingular is going to provide that code for him huh?

Since when? We do NOT guarantee service in all areas, so since he's past 30 days, he WILL be billed an ETF if he cancels his account. Once that's paid, he can get the code.

That more than likely is the case, especially since he probably got some rebates on the device when he signed up.

I understand that, I am just telling you what the rep on the phone told me. I am not agreeing or saying that it is true. I am just saying what the rep told me on phone. The rep said "once he ports over to the other carrier, we will bill the ETF and then have it credited." that's all she wrote. I thought it sounded funny on the phone too. But that's what he said. And just a personal thought; locking phones to be carrier specific is really dumb and I hate it
