Data network speeds- today and what's ahead

Does anyone know for sure what high-speed data technology is faster, CDMA 1X RTT (Like Verizon and Sprint widely use) or Cingular's EDGE data network?

Of course the data race is on to see who will nationally deploy broadband data technology like EV-DO, WCDMA 3G, and so on.

Another good question is who will be best positioned carrier to offer the best and fastest broadband network in the country?

Cingular's Edge is not as fast as CDMA 1X RTT yet, thats because its not in all markets yet, so then it will switch over to the GRPS.
When everything is finished it will UMTS in all marekts, and will blow the 1X RTt out of the sky.

UMTS will beat 1X RTC, but evdo rev a will beat UMTS, and then HSPDA will beat Evdo rev a, so really if you want the best data speeds you will have to bounce from company to company, what I would say is to chose one and stay with them b/c no matter what some one will come out with something newer and fast which will be answered with something even fast and better. (by the way Evdo rev a and HSPDA are due out around the same time)
