Damned if you do, Damned if you don't

How is this for a catch 22?

I work in a Company Owned Retail store. Yesterday I was setting up a customer with Two Rzr's, I have a number in the store, but the two that I picked asked for a subsidy unlocked code. Now this seems odd to me that a cingular phone with a cingular chip is asking for an unlock code so I call tech support to get them unlocked. The first person I talk to tells me that all phones for the east coast are completely locked (Is this true?). After a bit of coaxing I get a knowledgable rep that proceeds to tell me that in order to unlock the phone we have to sell at which point I tell himhey we can't sell it unless it's unlocked. Has anyone else had this issue come up in your stores?

I understand what the second rep said... they have to have the IMEI in the system with the phone number for them to look it up. Assuming you also use the IVR, I suppose you could've activated them from a landline but that doesn't solve the problem. If they can't look up the phone until it's active, how are they going to unlock phones which a customer purchases at full price? It's something they're supposed to do according to policy...

I think the subsidy unlock stuff has so many bugs because they just really don't wanna do it.

Not a bad deal, but it's still something that should be free (by cingular, not by you) to the people who meet the terms. For those that don't, I don't see any problem with charging them to get their phone unlocked.

Very true, I'm an agent myself and our owner just bought the celle brite cables for all the stores this year... big investment there.

Is there an unlocker for phones other than motorola?

I know exactly the problem you are speaking of. The Razrs you have are locked solely to AT&T SIM cards, and will not work with Cingular SIM cards. (Unless locked of course) In store, no work around has been given yet. Stores have received the Razrs with white print on the sides, the long side of the box, not the UPC side, and these are locked to AT&T. I do believe they were mistakenly sent to stores from inventory that was supposed to go only to our AT&T business group, essentially the Tiger Team. You need tyo use your stock with the black print on the sides for Cingular activations.

That matches (AT&T V3s for business) what I've been able to read. As far as unlocking Cingualar phones, the last I read a customer has to have some many months of good service before we'll do anything. This means that any NEW customer would not make the cut. Sound like distribution sent you the wrong stock. You're not doing anything wrong, you just have the wrong phones.
