New SIM vs 64k SIM

BeachSlapped

Ok, I am the type of guy who likes to have the latest of latest. That being said, I wonder. What's the difference between the new national SIM and the 64k SIM. I'd like to activate the "new" SIM and put it in my phone. What do you guys think? Should I? Should I not? will I notice any improvements? any advise is appreciated. 🙂

from what i've heard the only different thing is you can recieve your over the air activation anywhere with the new sim, you don't have to be in your home market, otherwise, they're the same, least that what i've heard so far....

Also it is that the SIM cards are the same everywhere, where as now they are different in 1900 markets than 850 markets.

Actually, the 64K SIM with the Enhanced Network Selection (ENS) helps with signal. The old SIMs grab an old Cingular tower, even if a stronger AWS (for example) tower was closer. The new SIMs will grab the strongest signal, no matter the network, even a T-Mobile tower or another roam partner's tower.

How do you tell the difference between the old sims and new ones, is there a string of numbers on the sim that will differentiate it, or does it say on the sim?

No, it basically "look wise" will not effect anyone but the 1900 markets because they are used to having a shorter string of numbers for actual SIM number.

2 things, first that not what we are talking about. both sims are ENS, like the previous post, the one sim is universal to all markets while current sims are market specific.

second, the sims do not detect the stronger signal. ens, enhanced network selection, balances the load between the blue and orange network, so that the circuits on a tower doesnt get loaded up. this is only neccessary until integration is complete.

As a customer, you really won't reap any benefits. I would not activate the new SIM, I'd just copy my address book to it and stash it away in case I ever lost my phone..

It looks different. Really. Thats all.

It was just a move by cingular to streamline its products. Prior to this, there were a couple of different 64k sim cards floating around, all doing the same thing, all with different skus. It just depended on the manufacturer.

Now, I don't know if its only one manufacturer or if cingular told them all to make them look the same, but its one sim card design, one sku, one product.

Really.
