We don't do 1 year contracts. If you purchase one on ebay then start a new line, it is referred to as coam (customer owned and maintained) equipment. There is no contract with coam equipment. You can start a new line on a new acct or add a new line to an existing account. No matter what though, you will be required to keep the data plan.

You can do 1 year new just not 1 year upgrades.

I seem to remember someone somewhere on these boards saying that they bought an iPhone via ebay and then went to activate it, but iTunes made him sign a 2yr term even though it wasn't a subsidized phone.

Maybe that process has been resolved, and maybe it only applies to the old iPhone 2G that had the no-store activation process.

Pretty sure that was only a 2G issue/iTunes. I've just SIM swapped to my iPhone and had the store change the IMEI and add the proper package.

I guess it depends where you go to activate the phone. Still requires a credit check, and in my store you have to sign a two year, but CS can change it to a one year.
