Ok so word is I can't put a sidekick 2 on cingulars network, or well use it to it's fulliest... So the question is this. First is this true? Secondly if it is, is there anyway to change it so it works... I'm really in the whole wanting the sidekick but not wanting the terrible tmobile... I dont want to start trouble from cingular to tmobile, i know people like it but I had it and hated it so yeah... I dont really like cingular either but the gsm network with phones makes up for that... Thanks Y'all...

😡 No you can't use the device to it's fullest. It won't let you browse the internet on CINGULARS network and you may not get the coverage you would with a legitimate CINGULAR phone. To use all the SIDEKICKS features you'll have to get it on T-MOBILES networ...such as it is!

No, the sidekick II won't work for Cingular. Cingular uses 850 MHZ to run their system although they still also use 1900 (just like T) but like lordrevan05 said you won't be able to use any of the data features on it. Sorry dude, SOL on the sidekick II

There is a model that supposedly has the 850 band according to the specs here on phonescoop.

Might be the one Suncom's using. I was just in one of thier COR stores yesterday and they've got a Sidekick II.

Well shouldnt it work on Cingulars network? As long as you get the right WAP settings?

Theoretically....unless there's some proprietary stuff that MUST be supported from the carrier side of things. If that's the case then it wouldn't....but that seems a bit extreme to me.

The Hiptop 2 (Suncoms version of the Sidekick) will not work on the Cingular network. Like mentioned before, you can use it for phone purposes but you will only pick up the 1900mhz band which could lead to roaming problems. If im not mistaken Cingular is the only major GSM carrier that uses the 850mhz band. I just migrated to Cingular from Suncom and was forced to get a new phone because my T637 wasnt 850mhz supported. So I was forced into getting the s710a 😛

OH DARN!!! That must have been terrible for you (sarcasm, of course)

Well there goes the theory that Suncom's the one carrying the 850 MHz version of the Sidekick.....wonder if ANYONE has it?

Ive looked all over the place for it and have never found it because I was interested in getting one for Cingular as well. It could have been produced then scrapped. Who knows...

But yeah being forced to get the s710a was horrible. I should never be forced to buy a phone (more sarcasm). But I got a good deal on ebay ($350) for a brand new one that I just got today. It beats the v220 and the v180 they wanted to give me for free. DEATH TO CINGULAR FOR MAKING ME BUY THIS DAMNED S710A! Now Im gonna be forced to get a nice BT headset and a larger MS DUO. Cingular and their monopolistic (is that a word) ways!!!
