Here in St. Louis, the two biggest supermarket chains are Dierberg's and Schnuck's. Both were started by local families, and are THE names in the local supermarket scene.
Sadly, I've never been to an Albertson's or a Piggly Wiggly. I've never even HEARD of Publix! But then again, how many of you are familiar with Schnucks or Dierbergs? You'd never think that supermarkets were so foriegn in various states!

Anyone ever hear of H.E. Butt Grocery Company?(HEB) It's a grocery store chain here in TX, and I believe the largest privately held company in either the country, in TX, or in the grocery store business. Around here, I think we just have that and Super Wal-Marts.
