But Cingular's logo, the little orange guy, does he have a name?? lol. 🤣 I've been wondering that for a while. He's sort of the mascot for Cingular, and mascots usually have names, does anyone know if he has one? Sorry for the stupid question. 🤭

But thats the thing.... It is NOT a stupid question. Trust me, when people here started to talk about Jack, I was like "Who THe F*ck Is That?"

Alot of Non-industry people come here. Employees seem to forget that sometimes...

I've always known that the name was "Jack" but what I've always wondered is where the design and the name come from. I wonder is there is a story behind it...

He is shaped like a "jack", like the old game of Jacks. That's what we were told like 5 years ago when they thought him up. 🙂

In the words of an old platoon sergeant I had in Cali, ' The only stupid question is the one you don't ask; and, that's the one that usually gets me shot at.'

"his" name is not jack. He is a jack as in the game of jacks that you played when you were little? or at least i played it

Okay, now this explanation doesn't work too well. The shape of the trademark is an asterisk, usually referred to by geek types as a "splat." So the last name makes sense, but if it were named for a jack like in the game, it would have to be three dimensional rather than flat. I always just figured that "Jack" is a generic first name that worked with the descriptive last name "Splat." Possibly from the "Jack Sprat" nursery rhyme...

Etymology of trademark nicknames--I must be going insane... 😉
