I just clocked in to work today... and we are extremely slow, so I figure I'd open the floor to some questions on the forum... and lets try to keep this civil and educated please. 😁

I am looking to get a new Cingular phone. I would be paying full retail price. I currently have a Motorola v551 and would prefer a phone at least capable of EDGE and possibly MobiTV.

A good price is preferred too. Any suggestions?

Sure... it used to be only like 1 phone that could be offered with mobiTV and edge(Nokia 6620), but as the times progress it seems everything is going that way. Unfortunatley the problem the wireless sales market is running into is we are making amazing phns with amazing abilities but the public has not caught-on with how to use them to thier advantage yet...except a small minority of tech-savvy folks out there (like yourself 😉 ). As a result of this lack of market most of the phones that ARE capable are still pricy, but will give you a quick rundown of the models I would recommend, i'll also look up the reatil prices in your location... what is you zip-code?

🙂 I have a tenative list currectly of our MobiTV phones (which really are going to be your limiting feature as not too many phns have it). also I have included the no-commitment pricing. and yes even though you don't sign a contract the rebates still apply, although the prices may vary slightly in-store as taxes and regions change, these prices are based in CT, but I can let you know anywhere:
Sony Ericsson Z500A (free online right now)
Moto V180: 149.99(50.00 rebate) 99.99
Moto V220:179.99(30.00 rebate) 149.99
RAZR V3: 549.99(100.00 rebate) 449.00
Nokia 6620: 349.99(50.00 rebate) 299.99

I purchased a phone on eBay, can I get my IMEI number changed so if anything happens to the phone (mechanically) i can get an XBM?

absolutley... to get the phn to work all you need to do is do a SIM card Swap. which you can do yourself but you are correct... if something happens to it you DO need to udate your IMEI for an XBM OR an insurance claim. Now wether XBM will actually participate will be determined by if the phn is a CINGULAR phn. if it isn't, obviously they wont have a replacement to send you. also... when you call in to have it updated... don't tell them you got it from ebay tell them you bought it at a retail store and to place a not on the acct stating your warranty needs to start from today to reflect that. trust me... 😉

That won't work. It goes by whether or not the phone is more than a year old. Once it is sent back to the manufacturer (we are just the middle man) If the IMEI is more than a year old the customer will be responsible for full cost of the replacement phone. It is not from the date on the account.

Oh Lol. Sorry, I didn't know you had to if it was notated. But wouldnt that still be a problem since it is the manufacturer that would charge it?

đŸ˜ŗ uummm maaaaybe 😈 but I usually don't mind getting around that to punk a manufacturer every now and then. I mean they do it to us so often by that wonderful phrase "well sir/madam you really should refer to your wireless provider for that information" instead of helping the occasional customer with a device question. lol

I usually find out on here. People like Jackie are really helpful when it comes to things like that especially since in customer care we don't deal with pricing that often. I rarely do upgrades or phone orders.

😕 what can I say besides... you are probably correct, there are some reps that are quite rude. I do apoligize for them but we are not all bad. I enjoy my job with a few exceptions. but some people take everyting so personally that they get bent out of shape at a previous call, or their tired, or they don't wan't to be there or ther manager just griped them out, or last but not least they are STRESSED ABOUT CONSTANT STAT CHANGES AND EXPECTATIONS, that they take it out on innocent customers. sorry man... if you got me woulda been different 😁
