So I just migrated from TDMA to GSM and I'm now Cingular Blue / Business Acct. I really wanted the Nokia 6230 but was told not available, so I opted for the V551.
Can I just buy another phone from wherever and plug my SIM inot it? I know it has to be an unlocked phone, but will a locked Cingular Orange phone work? How can I tell if it's an Orange or Blue phone?

a question wih many potential answers. If I understand you correctly you still have an active AT&T acct right? you didn't MIGRATE over to the cingular side right? if so then if you want another phn YES you CAN go out and buy one. it IS EASIER and QUICKER if you buy an unlocked one (which is what I wld recommend). if you go to any cingular store however they will all be locked. if you want to buy one UN-LOCKED you will want to buy directly from the manufacturer, not through a cingular/AT&T agent or retailer. 😉

I was told I am Cingular Blue, and I think my SIM says ATT on it.

Yes you can put your SIM into any unlocked GSM or any ATT GSM phone.

Good idea to look at the SIM. If it's a Blue ATT SIM then you're Cingy Blue. They didn't really migrate you over then. If the SIM is a Cingy one, then you're Orange. If you are Blue, then you'll either need an ATT phone or an unlocked one. Orange handsets won't work.
