I want to migrate my current service over to Cingular GSM and was wondering how much I should pay for a Motorola V551.
Every single Cingular store has it for 99 with a 2 year contract but then I occassionally see it on the cingular website for 74.99. I asked the reps at the store if they could match the web price but they said they can't. Yet, I've spoken to a few people who have told me that the reps actually have some leeway with discounts.
Is this true? and what would seem to be a good price to pay for this phone and is it even negotiable
Thanks
🙂

my opinion is find one on ebay for abot 110 bucks . ( I found over 20 ending in less than 5 hours for under 120 bucks. Then take it to store and sign a month to month contract. You have to goto a Corp. store, becaue an agent store won't do a month to month contract.
Good Luck
...
That is only if he is not under contract on the AT&T side... If he still has a contract on the AT&T side he has to sign for a minimum of that length (i.e. 14 months, has to be two years or 9 months, has the option for a one year).
...
....and its always non-negotiable when we quote a price for a phone were not here to bargain. 😲
...
Imagine if car dealerships were like that 😳
CINGULAR ROCKS! 😈
...
I wouldn't try to negotiate if the online price was the same as the price at Cingular's own corporate stores.
...
stores, online, and customer care can and may be different the three will not price match each other.
unfortunately it is just the way it works.
...
The main reason that online pricing is lower than the others is because there is no commission to be paid so the "savings" are passed on to the consumer... BUT keep in mind online orders, if you want to exchange or do anything along those lines (cancel) you have to go back through them and that is a pain in the you know what... Honestly if the $25 worth the possiblity of the problem later?
...
I learned that the hard way when I was getting a second line added for my girlfriend.
Almost 2 weeks had gone by and still no phone in the mail. So I just cancelled the order and went to a Cingular store, not sure if it was corporate owned or not, but non the less, I received impecable service from the Rep, A++.

Did you get it from me? 😁 Just playing. 😉

Well, if you were dressed like a 20 something male with dark hair, a goatee, and are very slim. Then there's a good possibility that it was you. Oh, and if you reside in Addison, IL too, there's a good chance! 😛
...
No such thing as "leeway" for equipment pricing.

Cingular likes to set our prices in the store then do different prices online or over telesales. I work for an agent, and we do have some ability to match prices as long as there isn't a loss on the sale. We also can play with accy. prices to offset the cost. You do have to realize though, that there is a fixed cost to having a store, and employees to help you with your problems. We exchange the phone out in 30 days for warranty issues and such. If you buy online, you get to ship it back if there is a problem. At least thats how it works in this area.
