Out of curiosity is it not true that wherever in th U.S. you can get tmobile service you can also get cingular service? I ask this because these two companies have basically the same band withs except cing has 850 mhz and tmobile does not. i know there are some places where this philosophy wont work but in most cases is this true?

No EXACTLY true.... T-Mobile & Cingular have different networks. Their coverage areas may differ. As far as roaming, that would depend on the roaming agreements between the companies.

T-Mobile and Cingular have roaming agreements with each other when it comes to the 1900mhz band. 🙂

I've heard rumors that Cingular is going to allow T-Mobile to roam on its 850mhz band, but I find it hard to believe because it's one advantage that Cingular has over T-Mobile and it'd be a dumb move on their part to give the same advantage to it's biggest rival.

those 850 agreements are already in place in some areas, and the 1900 agreements are only in SOME areas, not all

So let me see if i have this right...
T-Mobile used to carry equipment that did not work on the 850MHZ frequency...
T-Mobile is now starting to carry equipment that WILL work on the 850MHZ frequency, BUT THEY DONT HAVE THEIR OWN TOWERS???

Is this going to be similar to when they launched in Nevada & California (renting Cingular towers)????

Yeah, they are starting to carry equipment that will work on the 850mhz band.

So I just did a search on the Phone Finder with the following requirements:

GSM 850- REQUIRED
CARRIER T-MOBILE-REQUIRED

THe following phones came up:

Motorola A630
Motorola C332 / C331g / C333
Motorola C650
Motorola T720i / T722i
Motorola V171
Motorola V180 / V186
Motorola V600
Nokia 3220
Nokia 3595
Nokia 6010
Nokia 6800
Nokia N-Gage QD
PalmOne Treo 600
BlackBerry 7100
BlackBerry 7290
BlackBerry 7780 / 7730

I try not to discriminate, however, I dont want T-Mobile users jamming up our network! 😡

Don't worry, Cingular customers have priority on Cingular towers. Which is why Cricket service is so bad...they don't have priority on ANY towers.

Also, not all of those phones have 850 on the T-Mobile versions. On some it's been disabled.
