Can anyone tell me why Cingular bought out Suncom and is now forcing everyone to get a new handset? They want me to trade in my V600 for something inferior even though I told them it was unlocked and would accept any SIM card. Guess I'll look elsewhere in June when my suncom account deactivates as a result of the Cingular buyout. đŸ˜ĸ

Don't worry about it. just go to a cingular store, ask for one of the rep's cingular sim card, put it in yours, have someone dial that number, and you'll see if it works. pretty much 99% sure it will. just like how cingular makes every ATTWS customer migrating over buy new phones...even tho they will work about 75% of the time.

I know Cingular SIM card works because I tried one of my friends cards before going to the store.

I don't see a problem in doing that (meaning using an unlocked phone). The only thing is though is that you would need to sign a minimum of a one year because you still have time left... I am sirry they aren't willing to work with you. ☚ī¸

Not sure when but they have taken over in VA and sent letters to all Suncom customers about the June 1 deadline to switch or your phone will no longer work.

They bought them awhile ago because Southern VA was the last market Cingular needed to have service in the top 100 markets in the US. They traded their towers in NC to Suncom for Suncoms towers in VA. But yeah they worked that out in the Cing/ATT merger since Suncom was a subsidary of ATT. But yeah June 1st is when everyone has to switch to Cingular.

Yeah I just came from Suncom. You dont have to trade in your phone if you dont go with one of their free phones. The reason why they want you to trade is because Suncom used the 900 band instead of the 800/850 mhz band which Cingular uses. So your Suncome phone wouldnt work on Cingulars network. I had a T637 and they tried to make me trade it in for a cheap @$$ Moto v220. So is what I did was traded in the T637 because I found out you can actually get more on eBay for the v220 than the SE T637 and then sold the v220 on eBay and used that money towards buying my s710a for $350 brand new off of ebay.

You mean to tell me even though my V600 is unlocked, I won't be able to use it on Cingular just because they use 800/850mhz band?

If your v600 has the 850 band youll be able to use it flawlessly. If it does not then you would only be using the 1900 band which can cause roaming problems and you may not get that strong of a signal. But technically, yes, it will work on Cingular, but not to full potential. Im relatively new to Cingular so I do not know if they had the v600 or not.

We had it, but recalled it because of poor performance in the 850 mhz spectrum.

trade in? what use would your v600 be to cingular? take the free phone and pop in your cingular sim... or is that too much of an inconvenience?
