Hey everyone, let's all complain about the $18 upgrade fee!!!

Common people. Let's think this through. ATT went bust because they gave away everything they could. That isn't conducive to making a profit. Every company in the industry charges for something, most all of them charge for an upgrade. And yes the fees can be waived, but that's one of the ways that ATT went Tits up. Every company in the industry has taken note about the the way not to do buisness from ATT and are cracking down on waiving those fees. So keep complaining, but as long as you are getting your checks be happy that your still in buisness.

Better yet, let's watch Cingular get smart and roll the upgrade fee into the price of the phone so it doesn't annoy the crap out of customers! It's such a sensible approach, why have none of the honchos figured it out? Customer service is all about perception over reality, and it makes no sense whatsoever to create sticking points that trap customers midway into their smooth fall into a new contract and make 'em balk... 🙄

If you could sell something by marketing the price you would pay, then I'm sure everyone would disclose fees in their advertising. The only thing you can buy for the price you see quoted is Groceries, since many of those items are non-taxable. In every advertisement you'll ever see or hear (excluding produce) you'll notice a disclaimer somewhere speaking of extra costs. Advertisements are there to get you to ask about it, and then it's the salesperson's job to talk about everything else.

we could set it up as a slush fund for something that sounds worthwhile: $18 dollar fee for the protection of the Madagascarian hissing ****roach; your $18 goes towards prevention of the killing of the ****roach by the indiginous dodo population.

I say we set it up as a fee to help support the International Idiot and Moron Protection Society (IIMPS). This way we can ensure that those customers who complain about the fee tha all companies charge know that this money is for their benefit. Having money work for them makes sure they are happy 😁
