To anyone in the Biz
Hey i'm new to posting but ive been around for a while. and i was just eager to ask this question to anyone in the wireless biz.... Do you believe having a cell phone is a necessity?? or a luxury?... the reason why i ask this is because it gets annoying to hear customers want a free phone when they upgrade. yes now in these days cell phones are HELPFUL.. but not a necessity...this isnt an attack on anyone. just wondering on people's perspective.

I feel it is a double edged sword, so to speak. I feel that some people need it, like my sister who has an ill child and something could happen at anytime. But the majority of people I still consider it a luxury.

to me its a necessity, cuz its used as my "land line" as well.

Well, this could go many ways. I feel that it depends on the person and what they use it for. To some it may be a necessity. If a buisiness person happens to speak to more clients and accomplish more, therefore making the business more successful and profitable, then that would classify as a necessity. That is because they wouldn't get that accomplished any other way, and the phone is bringing in more than it is worth. But to 12 year old girls who get a cell phone because it is cool, then definately a luxury. I would say to most people it is a luxury. We DID manage to live for thousands of years without cell phones, much less phones at all. But for today's world, especially here in the united states, our society wouldn't work without...

After reading some posts I feel the definition of necessity should be posted: The condition or quality of being necessary.

Cars aren't a necessity either, and in some places of the world you don't need much clothing.
A cell phone is not a necessity. Until the day we're all implanted with chips in our brains at birth, because we've become so dependent upon machines that we can't even remain alive without them functioning as our nervous system, electronic devices will remain a luxury.

its just.. to me... a cell phone is a tool kind of like... a hammer or a shovel. not something i NEED to exist or function. i needed closure that people felt the same way in which i found it some do. but then again i like looking at the other side because others see things differently as far as necessities... plus... dont you guys just love how we all came together đ đ¤Ŗ đ

Luxury in most cases. There are a few that are necessities. I.E. sick people, people taking care of those that are sick, people with psychotic stalkers.

In my case my current cell phone is a neccessity. I use it for my personal house line and I use it for work. I am the primary wage earner for my household so I need to be reached all the time.

It depends on your age I suppose. Those of us who lived nuch of our lives without them may not consider them a neccessity. There was always a way to contact someone if needed. Nobody died!! LOL. I actually know people who will turn around on the way to the Mall because they forgot their cell phone!!!But teens and early 20's are phone users and always were so in their case Im sure its a "can't live without" proposition.

i think its a necessity. you can do a lot of things on cell phones, plus landlines are becoming extinct. why not bring a mobile cell phone around with you? its easier, better, and you can stay connected.

I read in a tech mag a little while ago that power companies are working with moving internet connections thru a simple AC/DC wall plug unit. This would allow for download speeds of 4 Ghz/s and also re-routing of telephonics as well. All at a much lower price. And the kicker of it all is that they've had the technologies to do this routing since the 60's. Right now they're testing these techs in Detroit, Houston, and Chicago; if I were the big fone companies i'd be a bit scared now. đŗ

1. Cell phones are not totally reliable.
2. You would have only ONE number and have to give that number to everyone, busineses...opens the door for sales calls and unwanted text messages.
3. It's a leash. I don't want to explain to everyone who calls why I did not have my phone on me. Especially if ya got a girlfriend. They know I don't always carry my phone. No explaination needed there.
4. I don't use my cell when Im in my home. People always call my home phone first.
5. I only have 16 important contacts on my phone and who know my cell phone number. ALl other's can leave a message on my home phone.
6. Im not a phone gabber.

yea, land lines will become extinct. look at the landline numbers from 2000 to now. it has been decreasing. when wireless broadband comes out and more functionality can be on your phone as well as when coverage improves then landlines wont be needed.
