Not doomsday - just a general lack of civility and intelligence. Of course, since this is also oindicative of today's modern society, perhaps you are correct with "doomsday".

Personally I believe humanity has, more or less, always had the same range of idiots and geniuses.
I believe their is a wider selection of people on the internet (no longer just early adopters and nerds. God Bless Facebook for the masses). Larger selection brings the averages down.
Internet culture also breeds trolls and a type of forward honesty about personal opinions that isn't generally avaible face-to-face.
After all... anyone who says something you disagree with is stupid - generally speaking.
Look at politics for example. What used to be civil conversations... are now all out flame wars between people.
Look at the "wave" of perverts and criminals we see on TV....
