Are Cingular GRPS settings universial?

Hello All:
Just got an SMT 5600 unlocked off of ebay. I migrated my old TDMA att account to a Cingular plan. Put sim in works fine, but I have the same issue that every one has had with the internet connection- Can not get anything. No settings seems to work. Tried all the fourms out there and all the diffrent settings(WAP,GPRS,Proxy) people have claimed worked- but nothing. Called Tech desk at Cincular and given the same story I expected to hear "we don't support the phone" but they gave me some basic settings. Rep said I would need to register my account online and check the option for accsess medianet. Cingular account site has been down all day. Since the new settings my phone periodically beeps and says unable to communicate with netwo...

I "don't" think activating online will solve the problem. I can give you the basic GPRS and WAP settings, but I don't know the proxy ones. Someone with a nokia 6230 should have similiar settings to what you need.

I haven't had any problem using my unlocked LG's with cingular MEdia.

Make *sure* you set the APN, GPRS, and WAP settings correctly. You even have to *capitalize* the username and password, it's that picky...... but it works fine for me.
