Q's about phone avilability and porting and buying

I went to amazon.com to look at the phone (S710a), and put in my zip (49099) and it said the phone is not available in my area. Cingular.com and buy.com and wirefly.com all let me add it to a cart. Whats up with amazon? Is there something they know about my area and this phone? Or is it just that amazon only has rights to sell in certain areas/markets?

Also, regarding number porting, my current mobile number is a local cell number for the next town, zip 49091, but in 49091 I dont think any site will allow me to buy cingular service (cingular.com, wirefly, buy.com, amazon.com all fail). Is it possible to port that number then? Or doesnt it really matter? I realize that amazon cant port, but they also have the best price it seems, $2...

Wow, replying to myself already! Scratch the 'number wirth $150' as I cant even order it from amazon.com. so the best price I can do is from wirefly for $300 AR.

as a customer care rep for Cingular, I have talked to maybe a dozen customers who used wirefly.com to get service, not one of those customers can say it was a pleasant experience. Be very very careful if you use that site, because they don't have much by way of customer service, so if they screw something up, you're pretty much on your own. I'm sure for those dozen callers, there were thousands more who had no problems at all, based on the stories I've gathered, I don't trust that site at all. Remember, you get what you pay for. I'd rather drop the extra money and go to a store and have it done right.

Well I guess I will just buy direct from Cingular then. Read a lot of other posts people had on here about some of these other places, and rebate terms and such.

Ok, just placed my order online, and hopefully soon will have confirmation of my order!

One question I have, my brother was looking at what I ordered, and questioned me on this:

Why order Multimedia messaging 40/month (unlimited through 2006) and Text Messaging, since the Multimedia Messaging description says "Send and receive photos, video, sound, and text on your phone with Cingular Multimedia Messaging (MMS)." Can you just send a text msg with MMS? Or does it have to be multimedia with the option of a text message added to the video/picture/sound?

I believe you can, but I don't know exactly how that would work... Reason being is if you send an MMS to someone without and MMS service, or MMS capable phone they will only get a text telling them to look at a website with a user ID and passcode... I would just get a text plan to text and an MMS plan for MMS's 😁

Ahhh ok. Didnt know thats how MMS worked. Now it makes more sense.

Now I just wish the online store would hurry up and post my order status! 😁 I know it says it can take up to 24 hours, but I want to know now!!!! 😁 😁
