Why is it that the majority of people want to spend the least amount of money on one of the most important pieces of electronic equiptment they own? Most people rely on their cell phone more than there laptop. I wonder why some people will not give a second thought to spending thousands and thousands of dollars on a tv that they might only watch a couple hours a week(also paying a monthly cable or dish bill), but can't comprehend why they should pay anything for a phone, that is their lifeline for business.
Anyone's input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the responses.
I have asked this question quite frequently among my peers, and I was curious what the feedback would be from other areas.

For someone who professes to make some good coin in the stock market you should have better sense than to make that comment about business not needing cell phones, or Wireless communications in general.

Cell phones, in general, significantly increase productivity amoung workers. Remove them, and you decrease productivity. You also increase payrolls, decrease profits, decrease stock values and dividends and decrease disposable income. If you were to remove cell phones as an advancement our economy would not be nearly as good as it has been over the last 20 years.

I dont agree to the extent you profess. There are a lot more factors involved in productivity then cell phones.

The same business calls would be made. You are assuming important business calls would not be made becasue of no phone availability. But there were always phones available. Perhaps inconvienient but there nevertheless.

I do agree productivity is increased by the convienience of cell phone technology in CERTAIN fields of work. But not to the extent as being responsible for the good or bad economy at large. Cell phones also decrease productivity at work and in schools. Its a two edged sword.

Personally I would not have another dollar in my pocket or bank without a cell phone. I do speak from personal experience. In fact I...

Carriers focus on that stuff b/c thats what sells, most of the public could care less whether their calls are clear as long as they have their personalized cell phone that plays their fav song when someone calls! 😕 A majority of americans don't care about quality, all they care about it is having the newest and coolest....

How many Best Buys require a minimum contract locking their customers into a set period of loyalty?

Phones are discounted because the carriers earn the money back with the monthly service contracts.

What bothers me more is how customer will sign a contract- a legally binding agreement- and not understand what they are agreeing to. Would you finance a car or take a loan from a bank without going over every word the dealership or bank puts in front of you?

The thing with a cell phone agreement is that all a customer really NEEDS to know is that they have their phone and service for 1 or 2 years. Most customers feel thats all they need to know. The thing with loans is that peopleneed to understand the APR and all that. I see where you are coming from though. But because of the free phones, people will jump on those before they spend some money. As soon as someone hears the word "free
everyone comes running.
