Clipboards

Ok, I have been reading that some brilliant Einstein has come up with an idea to require reps to carry clipboards, I assume with all the target questions to ask, to ensure high mystery shop scores.

Which markets are these? They do not do it here (North Texas) but I want to make sure it isn't the same regional President over our markets.

My opinion on this was that if you don't know how to sell properly, carrying a clipboard is not going to help. Maybe for new hires, but existing reps should be able to use their heads better than this. You may get an artificial high score on a mystery shop, but your closing % will drop because you are going to sell like a robot.

Thanks for your upcoming input.

We have to carry clipboards in the Carolinas market. At first I hated the idea but it really hasn't been that bad. At our store we don't read through the sheet on the clipboard with the customer but we do use it as a reference to make sure we have asked everything that Cingular wants us to ask.

Since implementation my owners stores have recieved three 100's and one 94.

Yeah, like this practice shop thing that every rep in my store has to do everyday. It is crazy, like I am gonna forget to ask my something during a "roll-play" situation. (Now don't let your imagination run wild, I know how some of you are.)

I do NOT like my clipboard. I know how to sell, and don't need that clipboard to look at. I think that it makes the associate look like they don't know what they are doing and makes the buyer not have complete trust in the associate.

I believe these retards that do the mystery shops should be required a little more training than what entails. These people forget store names , they put down wrong addresses. The put the wrong persons name. So, if they mess up these simple points, how are they going to evaluate us.

We're doing it in Dallas. ☚ī¸

I made up my own sheet to use that covers all the points and actually has valuable information for the customer to take with them if they don't want to buy.

I did the same thing. I kinda made my own version, the selling points that I am best at. I still have everything Cingular wants from me. I HATE shoppers. I am due one any day now... just waiting..

Good to see ya Ralph. You missed a busy day in here yesterday. I was gone from a few hours and I came back and it was madness. What is your real name??

Dallas,

That sucks, just down the road from us. Same management.

Well, being an agent I make the final call as an owner. If they roll it out here I am inclined to say no. I just think holding a clipboard and reading questions (even if you just glance) harms the sales flow. You have ask questions at the right time, not just "ask them this, ask them this...". As a sales rep you also need to know how to interpret their needs.

I completely agree. I should know the questions to ask, or I'm not doing my job.

The only reason I made up a form to give to those customers who ask about new service is so that secret shoppers have a point of reference when they go back to fill out those forms, but it also serves as a good reference for those customers who want to shop around first. With my stores name and everything we talked about in a clear customized form, they're more likely to come back to me.

Caleb,

Texaswireless (Jon) was my old Area Manager when I was working for Cingular while finishing up my degree in Lubbock. He is about to open up shop himself. He's a good guy and knows his stuff. Birds of a feather.......

TW, you're absolutely right. The clipboards do interrupt the sales flow. My agent principle initially took the same stance as you, he chose not to use them, told his RAE and higher that we didnt need them. Subsequently, one of our stores scored a 79% on a shop. Boy did he take some heat, and immediately implemented mandatory use of the clipboards. Since then, we've scored 94%, and 2 100% shops in our company. I have trained my staff to use the forms as a reference, not to read off it. We seem to be doing ok with it as of now. We simply carry the clipboard in our hand, by our side. I am lucky that I have a fairly experienced staff that all have good communications skills. My problem with the whole thing is that Cingular seems to be ...
