Here's the situation. I got a x427. I'm sick of it, so I'm looking for something new (yes, I'm eligible for upgrade). However, I'm a complete cheapwad, so I've been shopping around for months for the best value. I've decided on the v551.

Here's where it gets fun. Best Buy currently has it for $50. For new customers. Which I am not. It would seem I'm up a creek on this one.

HOWEVER. My friend is looking to get a cell phone as well, and Best Buy is also conjointly running a "Buy 1 v551, get a v220 FREE (via mail-in rebate)" deal. So I suggested that he get in on that deal, I'd pay for the v551 (at the $50), and he'd take the v220.

Now, I'm assuming that I can just throw my SIM card in and it'll cooperate, but that's my biggest conce...

to buy one get one free i am assuming he would have to have a shearable acct with an addl line. You can swap the phones as long as you are all with the same carrier (via att or cingular). You can not put Cing phone on att acct or att phone on Cing acct.

Ah, crap, I hadn't thought about that first part. I got Cingular, so that part isn't a problem, but I don't think he'll want multiple lines.

Is that something that can be cancelled at any time? How much would he be charged, if that's how it's gotta be, assuming he wants the low-end plan?

if you just upgraded there is a thing called buyers remorse, if you are under the 30 day grace period you can reverse migrate and then upgrade again to get a better deal with cingular, if you are trying to go through best buy i cannot garentee this but if the phone has cingular on it then you can buy it and put it on you current service, you said this was an older acct so i would assume that you might not be able to get the special offer since it is for new custs only so mabe you could be sol unfortunately, ask best buy about this and they can give you the best answers 😕

I believe the addl line can be cancelled at anytime for a fee of $175-$240. Don't know the full etf for Cing it wld be better to buy a new phone. Cheaper too!!

The additional line is subject to the ETF? Damn.

This is not looking good. My only hope is an additional line is NOT required for the extra phone, which is a loooooooooooooong shot.

yep definitaly a long shot. If u are out of contract cancel the acct and sign up for new one. Ask Cing first though cause that could be considered fraud. It doesnt hurt to call and see what CC can offer.

I've kinda already checked on that; The account is in my father's name, so to cancel that and start one in mine, there's a $500 deposit, which I just don't have. Plus, I'd lose a couple features I have on my account that I can't get back for the same price (although I can't think of what at the moment). So that's really not worth it right now.
