I would make them feel 2 inches tall without any abuse. Normally the reason they abuse you is because they are wrong about something and don't wont to admit it. I would play on that.

I would play all the stereotypes that cuustomers give about the company and exaggerate it like if the customer is being abusive and saying that he will sue, you gotta give me credit etc...
I would reply with "You know what sure if i wanted to I could give you a credit, but i don't like you, and you know what? Please sue us, we got more money then god, and we will sue you into the ground, put you in the poorhouse, then after that we will cxl your service and hit with the ETF.

Cingular is not the largest in the world, for cell phones that goes to China's two national carriers, each with something stupid like 100 million custs, but as far as the US sure there are on top. đ , not to start anything just like the facts, but on a lighter note I would have to say that I would on my last day, addv the cust if they started to swear at that each swear would be a 50 dollar charge to their account, as well there would be a "magic word" that if they said would get them a 500 debit per use, and they wouldnt get to know the word either. I think that would be fun đ¤Ŗ

On my last days at call centers, I have not had a truly deserving customer (DAMMIT!) The closest I'd come was a woman who kept eating something VERY crunchy (I'm guessing chips), which is one of my pet peeves. So I had a jar of hard candies (Altoids sour lemon candies) in my purse. I pulled them out and started crunching along with her. She crunched even LOUDER, so I crunched louder. Eventually, she gave up and stopped eating. đ

as funny as it would be to tell a customer off, whether they deserved it or not, the rest of us are the ones that have to deal with the customer after you're done with them. i know there's been several times i've wanted to tell someone off either because they are rude or ignorant, but i always refrain because i don't want someone else to have to deal with them.
my new favorite thing to do is when i'm transferring someone to another department i ask the new rep if it's ok if i stay on the line and listen in while they talk and if the customer starts BSing things, saying that i told them things that i didn't then i chime in and set them straight.
gets them everytime.
i wonder if that's entrapment?

Very well stated. We are the ones left with the irate customers....I myself would love to do it every once in a while but refrain only because I would hate one of my co-workers to get that call back.
