i only recently found out about this and am trying to find more information about it. i happened to be on a call with a technical support rep for telepos, and she told me that part of the problem was that we couldn't activate new lines of service in any area that was a "divested markets" when i asked her to explain more, this is what i found out:
when we bought out the virginia market from SunCom, the FCC stepped in and said we were becoming a monopoly so we had to sell off certain parts of markets to other companies, most of what we sold off went to SunCom.
so basically in what i found out we lost:
-oklahoma
-north and south carolina
-connecticut
-parts of georgia
-parts of tennessee
-most of kentucky
-most of indiana
-certain...

Really? We had been informed about this stuff since last november. A lot of the divested markets are being divested by FCC order due to the merger, actually, when cingular acquired AT&T Wireless. In a separate deal, we are also trading the Carolinas to Suncom in exchange for Virginia. but the other areas you mention are going to various smaller carriers like Alltel, and possibly Suncom for some of them.

see? that's what i'm talking about, they don't ever keep us informed here at the call centers. the only way that i found anything out was by talking to that tech support rep. now the only other people that know anything about it are the ones that i tell.

All we knew is that we couldn't migrate customers in a divested market (we were blue) so therefore they had to stick with attws or go to the other person who bought them out, which was sometimes a pain in the neck to find out who it was (at that time nobody knew it was suncom)

exactly, i actually was talking to a customer the other day who's number was sold by ATT (who has no records of the account anymore) and was apparently sold to SunCom. but when the customer called SunCom they said that they didn't have her number either. so somehow, she's still able to make phone calls, but she's not even sure what plan she's on and who she's going through.
at least they told you about divested markets, i had to find out for myself.

They didn't we were just told we couldnt migrate them. Until you explained it in your post I had NO idea what exactly they were or why they were "divested"

This is kinda funny, because here I am, in warranty, and they told us in warranty (who has little or nothing to do with the issue) all about the divestitures right from the start just before "Day 1."

i'm on the orange side. if what you were referring to was the "HOT BOX" then you didn't make an a$$ of yourself at all. our DMDR database was combined with our CSP tool. so it's all one jumbled mess now.

yeah, that's pretty much what everyone has told me. and i think that's what upsets me the most is the fact that this was information that was given out months ago and they STILL haven't getten anything out to us here at my telesales department.
