question for cingular rep
I just bought a V551. It has the S/W version
R47_G_08.17.0FR_01 on it. I found a newer version
floating on the web. It is R472_G_08.18.16R_0A.
Will Cingular upgrade my phone to this?
Does this version exist on the new phones being shipped out? It is supposed to add the new vibrate and ring among other things. The lady I bought my phone from says that she will exchange mine if she gets any in. I just wanted to find out if this was being issued by Cingular....

we won't upgrade your firmware unless you have a specific problem that will be fixed with the update. Updated software happens ALL the timne on ALL phones, most people just don't realize it.

does wanting the vibrate and ring function count as a problem? also, do I have to send my phone to cingular or can I take it to an authorized cingular store and get it updated?

that's not a problem. a problem that would require a software update would be accompanied by a memo to all cingular stores mentioning it.
and when a software update is required or reccomended it is just done through the exchange by mail program.

OK..last question. Do you know if the new phones that are being sent out have the new version on them? Just curious, and thanks for the info.
