For the past week I've had major issues with my iphone 3gs. singnal goes from full strength to searching, to no service, then back to full strength.
I've got nothing but BS from tech support. I can't figure out if something is wrong with the network or my phone.
I've swapped sim cards, restored the software on my phone, and they've sent some kind of over the air update to my phone ( i think it got worse after that). Also, with my sim card in the phone, my wifi signal was effected too. With sim card out, wifi seems to work fine. So that makes me lean toward something funky is happening when the phone is on the network.
In the east Texas area...anyone have any input? Thanks.

I don't know about East Texas, but here in Central Texas we are having the same experience and have had for months. My girlfriend and I, my barber, two nurses at the local hospital, all with 3gs, and a Doctor and a third nurse with Iphone 4s, all have the same complaints. Do not know if it is Apple, AT&T, or a combination. Come on, Verizon iphone!

I've seen that issue before and it has been the iPhone that was the issue not the network. Somehow the radio has gone bad. The way to know for sure is to put your SIM into a different phone and see what happens. Let us know!

I've put my sim in my moto Q and have not seen the same problem on the display, but can tell the call quality isn't as good. I've got some pops that sound like low signal noise in my ear piece.
A friend's wife that works at cell one tells me that ATT has ended their agreement to use cell one towers in this area. and that ATT has also restricted use of the towers that ATT does have of their own in the area. she says it's like shrinking the coverage area...but I would guess that would be an effect of not having cell one towers to use.

So I finally called apple and took advantage of my apple care plan. I got my replacement 3gs phone today. So far...signal is back to normal. I have not synced my information to the new phone. I wanted to test for a day or so to make sure it functions as it should, in case I have an app or something is the cause of my problem.

I've synced my phone and everything is still running normal. Reception is back to what it was.

I can't confirm it, but I think that AT&T is desperately working to get LTE installed. I'm guessing that these short problems are part of the process of installation. I had a late night conference call last Thursday (actually 2am Friday). The call dropped at least six times. I then rebooted and it did it again. After that, it held the call. This was in the DFW area (Fairview, near the intersection of 75 and 121). I have a Bold 2, so you can't blame the iPhone for this.
