Is this a rumor that may come true? This I heard from a friend and I don't think this would be a great move for T-Mobile. Please give me some feed back if ya'll heard this rumor.

Not in the near future at least. T-Mobile has the least to offer Cingular. Look at thier footprints, they overlap about 90%. If anything, they would go after a regional carrier like Dobson cause they offer service in places Cingular does not (i.e. Alaska) which would help reduce roaming costs

actually, i would think that they would go after t-mobile because i think that right now they are a bigger threat than verizon. t-mob has cheaper rate plans and offer more minutes for them, whereas verizon offers pretty much the same thing that cingular does. i don't know what kind of technology dobson uses, but since t-mob and cing are GSM they would probably shoot for that.

i don't know if the rumors are true since this is the only place that i've heard of that.

If it was to happen it wouldnt happen for a long time I think because Cingular needs to get everything straight with the acquisition of AT&T first.

T-Mobile also has to be willing to sell itself, I don't think thats some Deutch Telekom would do. But I may be wrong.

Dobson is similar to both Cingy and AT&T Wireless technologywise. it was TDMA and still has a TDMA network, but it is transitioning to GSM. the aforementioned alaska market used to belong to AT&T Wireless, but a while back, they traded it to Dobson for (I think) more of California and a couple other bits. I could see buying Dobson as a potentially good move for Cingular, but I don't know if it would be approved or not, and as has already been mentioned, we need to worry...

This is not something that CAN happen. In many markets across the U.S. Cingular and T-Mobile are the only GSM providers. The FCC would not allow Cingular to own all the GSM network in any market.

Also, T-Mobile USA is DeutschTelekom's first profitable wireless division, selling it off would substantially hurt their wireless development.

And on a third note, I can confirm this won't happen, because DT just placed T-Mobile USA's COO on the International Board of Directors. She will help drive US development.

Sorry guys.

I do not thin and the near future there will be a merger between the companies. Unless T-mobile USA falls apart like AT&T did. I do think that Cingular and T-mobile will do PTT together. Cingular will not buy them anytime soon.

cingular WILL NOT be allowed to purchase because of the reason about the FCC that was listed in a prior post and DT has publically stated that they WILL NOT be selling T-mobile at all
