Ringtone when you call?
i just had a lady call me and ask if we had a feature called "ringback" i'm going to try to explain this without it being too confusing, as it took me a second to understand what the lady was saying.
"ringback" is when YOU call someone else and instead of hearing the standard "ring" that you'd hear normally when you make a phonecall, YOU actually hear music (as if you were on hold) that the person you are calling has selected as their ringback tone.
sounds pretty awesome to me. she said verizon had it, are we going to be getting that anytime soon?

I think I remember reading Sprint having it too, but I haven't heard anything about us picking it up. I know that's one feature I wouldn't want on my phone, and if I called somebody with that feature I likely would never call them again. If they were a friend, I'd make fun of them relentlessly.

the ringbacks aren't something you can upload on your own. it is a pre-set list of them.

This has been a real boom in other countries and is just now coming to the states. The main reason that VZW and Sprint decided to have this feature is the wildly popularity of it overseas. I added this to my account and people constantly ask me how they can it on their account. I have sold tons of that feature. So just because your little group of friends might not like it...well millions others already love it...

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work that way... When we got Caller Tunes here at TMo I was really looking forward to putting some choice pieces of music on there for my friends, then found out we can only get songs that TMo has contracted to use--so weird, rude, esoteric Insane Clown Posse songs are pretty unlikely to ever be available, darn it... 😛

Cingular was supposed to launch it in a few markets within the next few months, but it got taken of the training schedule for at least the next 90 days. So it's been pushed back for awhile. But I found it in Snooper not to long ago. They are testing it, but releasing it will take about 6 months or so I'm sure. Put right next to PTT..............

You'd be laughing out the other side of your face in a bit--we've discovered that having Caller Tunes tends to make telemarketers hang up, as they think they've reached voice mail. It's an unanticipated benefit! I think caller tunes is an okay feature, but I'd like it better if I could upload my own songs to be used rather than downloading from a set of choices--I have some really interesting ICP ...

shouldn't you just be able to upload onto a website and then access it through your phone and download it that way? or just use a USB cable and connect to your computer?

This is NOT a ringtone, it has NOTHING to do with your phone or your computer. It's what people hear from our network instead of a ring when they call one of our customers. As such, TMo has to buy the rights to the music used and customers download the songs at 1.99 one time charge per song, in addition to the monthly feature charge of 1.49. So in order to use a specific song, it has to be available to the TMo network, TMo has to pay for the rights to use it, and it's not likel...

Currently mine says, "please enjoy the music while your call is being connected." I had it for one day without the greeting and people thought they had a wrong number and/or got my voicemail right away. Also, I don't know what Cingular is going to do, but with VZW you cannot upload songs to use. You must purchase from their content found at www.verizonwireless.com/rbt hope that helps.

does anybody have any updates on this? i'm a huge football fan and i'd love to get the monday night football theme song on my phone, some green day would be pretty cool too.
my cousin has verizon (yes, shes a fangirl) and has monday night football as a ringback tone, and i'm totally jealous. she laughs at me for that, but then i turn around and laugh at her for having crappy reception as i can get 5 bars in HER BASEMENT and she only gets like 2. i'm glad i made the switch back in december for quality reasons, but the feature side of me is calling me a retard, as vz has the ringback tones, ptt already, and free wap when configured right. so i guess better service and uncrippled bt has its tradeoffs.
