Clearing the Air on Issues Related to ATTWS buyout

I have heard so many whiny customers, reps trying to give info and people trying to explain issues relatedto ATTWS/Cingular it makes me sick. I am gonna clear up a lot is issues here which should clear up some misconceptions and enlighten people on stuff that they know partial info about but not the WHOLE story.

First off, Cingular Bought ATTWs, there was no merger in the convential sense, only in the legal sense.The legal term is absorption of another party and using that absorption to make yourself stronger.Cingular Did that by buying the ATTWS assets, network, billing system, customer base, customer service,employees etc....

That being said, thats the end as a merger goes.Cingular agreed according to the terms of the FCC and DOJ to ...

I was told that they were trying to dissuade the West market from migrating because the billing system there is not ready to handle the influx of customers that reside in the West market.
This came from our vendor manager, I guess. That's what our sup said. Not trying to say you are wrong, just trying to share the info I've gotten.

I get really frustrated with how confusing they've made this for us ATT reps.
Typical conversation: "thank you for calling cingular wireless, how can I help?"
"Yes my phone doesn't work, here's the number"
"Oh I'm sorry, that's a cingular line. Cingular closed at 9pm. You'll have to call back tommorrow"
"But you said you were cingular"
"We are, but I'm with ATT"
...

"why don't I ...

Ok, thats all well and good except for one thing...

We are still selling AT&T phones and plans, starting new lines of service and opening new accounts on the blue side. In NBO, we recieved an email stating that we are servicing all accounts now, business and individual. So no matter who you are, you have the option of staying on blue and will recieve blue support.

The thing is that if you are on a personal account that is not attached to a Foundation Account Number (FAN) or a business account that is not attached to a FAN all you can do is add lines to the account, upgrade phones, and migrate either Blue to Blue (TDMA to GSM) or Blue to Orange. You cannot start a new account.
