I've got a question reguarding bill pay for former ATT customers.
I work at a grocery store where we accept Cingular Blue payments. The machine we use to post the payments uses a light gun that we scan the numbers at the bottom of their payment stub with. To key in the numbers requires somewhere near 30 digits. The account numbers are around 10 and the numbers at the bottom are around 45. To keep from making errors, we MUST have the payment stub to scan.
Some customers are coming in without their stub. We tell them they must have one, and they run down to the store and get a printout, which we cannot use.
My question is this; is there any other way for them to make a payment? I'm assuming they can call and request a new ...

You can actually call in and we can give you all of those numbers off the bottom of the bill if its faster for you and the customer

As much as I'd want to help the customers, that would not be an option. They would become dependant on us calling in for them because they lost or forgot their bill and it would take up too much time while 20 other people are waiting in line to either cash checks, return items, or pay bills.
Also, the machine doesn't use all of the numbers, if I'm not mistaken, and we're not sure which ones it uses. I know I tried using the ones from the printout at the store and either ran out of numbers or had too many.

well then all they can really do is call in and get another bill, and while they're at it, they might as well just pay the balance through the automated system or customer care LOL

That's what I thought, and have been telling them. Is there an added charge for that? Can they use both a credit card and checking account number? As much as I hate to send them away, and possibly lose them as a future customer, that's the most I can do.
Can they also call in a request another statement?
I don't know why people go and pay $1.00 for stuff like this when they can pay it over the phone in the first place, but, oh well, more money for us.
...
Well it depends, its free for the former att customers to pay there bill over the fon, be we will be starting a charge of I think 2.00 soon....they can use check or credit card.
I understand what ur saying....its prolly quicker for them to drive across town then try to get through our automated system though hehehe....

Drive across town to where? The store says they can't take their payments. Can they use *PAY like I can? I'm with Cingular Orange though, and I really don't use it. Is there going to be a charge for Cingular Orange peeps in the future to pay over the phone? Just in case I'm not around a 'puter and need to pay it ;).
...
People can pay their blue bills over the phone through a rep or through the automated system at no charge. If they need a copy of their invoice it is a $5 charge to get a copy sent out to them. And no, the *PAY does not work with blue customers.
