This may be a iddiotic question but is there any word on a update to the a630? I just wonder because this could of been a big seller for cingular an i was wondering if there was any talk of trying to sell it or is it just a lost cause.

Wasnt it too big of a piece of ****/too buggy and it never got approved by Cingular for that reason?
I think it would have been a hot seller too. Anybody know how T-Mobile is doing with it, I know they offer it.

Well, ever since we've had it, I think I've gotten not even 2 or 3 calls about it, but each one I do know was relating to the same thing...the signal badly fluctuates. You can be standing in one place with full bars and then it drops to 0, then 3 then 0 then 4 then 1 then 5 etc....Also, when it has full bars if you go to make a call, it will not allow the call to go through, says "call failed" drops to 0 bars, and then again back to full signal.
Keep in mind though there are a few thousand units out thre and I'm only talking about a handful of them, overall I'd say it's been a good phone, but we all have our opinions on motorolas.
For instance, our V180 was the biggest turd thats come out since the C332. I don't know about cingulars,...

I have that sort of signal issue as you described with my Sony Ericsson S710a, although not as severe as that and it only occurs inside my home. Customer care (Cingular) told me that I have 3 cell phone towers in range where my home is so I find it kind of strange that this would occur. They also said one of them is under repair and not functional so that could be a reasons I suppose. I was also thining that perhaps the phone just has trouble finding the better signal between the two towers, I really dont know.
Im not bitching about it or anything and im not going to. No technology is perfect and it doesnt effect me tot he point that I cant do what I need to. It may just get a little frustrating sometimes.

I have a T-Mo Moto a630 that I have unlocked and I use it on Cingular. I also have had it flashed to remove all the T-Mo software and I now have a full Cingular start up and menu. It is nice to be able to use the internet on the phone!!!
I do have horrible signal issues. When the phone was flased the 850mhz band was "unlocked" but I think that is for show. Since it is 1900 mhz only, my signal degredation is the only problem I have with the phone. My V635 and wife's RAZR works perfect in our house.
Cingular's V180 has been a flawless in my opinion. Come to think of it, I haven't had one returned(same for the V220). It is one of the few "bugless" Moto's that I have sold. I think Cingular is also slated for the V188, but who knows?
