help ...upstate ny problem
ok heres the deal. i am in ky but my mother thinks she can get all the answers from me. i need help from someone in upstate nys help. she has a v220 on 39.99 nation plan. she has been making calls from clayton ny. she just received her bill and has been charged international roaming from toronto canada. when she called in to get answers about this she was told there was nothing that could be done. she was escalated and again told that the toronto tower was the strongest in the area and it it picks that one up and uses it she will be charged. mind you she is in the usa in the calling area covered by the nation gsm plan. is there anything that can be done because she doesnt want to pay the cancellation charge of 175 or get wrapped up in a piss...

Tell her to move to Canada, and pick a Rogers plan. That way she wont be paying any roaming charges. 😁
Seriously though, that often happens to people living near borders, I know at AT&T we would credit back for that. Also you could force the phone to remain on Cingulars network. Very easy to choose the network on a v220. And she will be able to see when it says rogers, microcell or fido on her phone.

well, that is called border roaming and it is always credited in my call center (ashland ky)
and if the reps she spoke with would look at where the tower she is picking up from she would get it credited . If it is a tower right across the border not 25 miles into canada .And another point to make out unless she specificly asked for international roaming feature she should have not been allowed to access those towers in canada , so i would request that be blocked in a program immediatly

As a short term resolution, look up in your owner's manual or call CC to find out how to do a manual network selection on the phone. This forces the phone to look only at the network you select and helps a lot with those freaky high power Canadian towers... 😉
