Sales experience
Is Cingular really strict on applicants have extensive sales experience when applying for a sales position? Thanks in advance!

I do not believe so. When hiring I personally go by personality and intelligence.

anybody can learn this industry if they have the desire and dedication. In my experience those who are "Top sales" reps tend to be a little too pushy and tend to get customers into products they don't want. My philosophy is much different.

I have grown in an interest in the cellular wireless industry in the past year or so and I have been trying to educate myself on it every chance I get and I plan on doing so any chance I get.

To be a successful salesman, especially in the wireless industry, you just have to find out what the customer wants and needs. Knowing your products and services is the biggest part IMO. Once you have those down you wont be fumbling around spec sheets while a customer waits for you to find them a phone. Just find out what the customer wants and fill that need. Being a push salesman may get you more money but you may gain the rep from customers as being pushy. When I worked at the wireless department at Best Buy I found ways to turn accessories and services into a need for the customer without sounding or being pushy. You'll get it down. As long as you're good with people I think you'll do fine.

i had no sales experience on my resume when i got my job. it really depends on your interview. if they can tell you are outgoing, friendly, and personable you are more likely to get the job over someone shy and introverted. your personality is your main factor in how successful you will be, imo
