Warranty Replacement????

I just got off of the phone with Cingular customer care because my phone was not working properly. It constantly was telling me to insert the sim card when the sim was in the phone (this did not happen with my other phone, so it could not be a sim issue). Therefore, they decided to send me a replacement under warranty. All seemed well at that point.

Then the rep proceeds to tell me that if there is so much as a scratch on my phone, it will be deemed out of warranty and they will bill my account for $225. That seems a little crazy. I mean I understand that there needs to be protection for Cingular in the case of water damage or phone abuse....but I would have to keep it in some sort of plastic bag or something to keep it from getting ...

I think the rep was exagerating alittle bit. If the phone is damaged then no your warrenty does not apply, but a stratch is little exsessive. What they ment was that if there was any sort of substancail damage, such as water or perhaps dropping damage.

He attempted to make himself very clear that "ANY physical damage as little as a scratch would be billed at $225."

I mean, like I said, I keep the phone in my pocket with my keys and loose change. Doing that does not cause any damage, but it does scratch the phone sometimes. Especially the RAZR since it is made out of metal. Keys tend to scratch metal very easily.

Seems like they are looking for a way to make money. But that is just my disgruntled opinion. I am not normally like this, but I was upset with his comments. I am usually an easy customer to get along with because I understand that people are just doing their jobs.

I work with cingular, just not in the warrenty department. there is alot of things that will viod the warrenty, but a 'scratch' is not one of them. Again i'm assuming this is a minor scratch and not like a "my car ran over my phone" type scratch". The rep may have been referring to a scratch on your SIM card. If that gets scratched then it will definate viod the warrenty, but i definately do not see why a scratch on the exterior of the phone would do anything.

It is a couple VERY minor scratches on the exterior of the phone. That is all.

I am thinking the guy just wanted to give me a hard time for some reason. Maybe someone pissed in his corn flakes or something.

The large number of posts here and other places show - (A) Cingular provides NO information regarding the diagnosis of your phone once it has be examined leaving you NO recourse to dispute a valid/invalid diagnosis (B) Cingular will do whatever it takes to turn a dime off any phone returned - including ones that are faulty by no fault of the owner.

Good luck! You're gonna need it!

There is recourse if I keep my IMEI number. That way, I can find out the diagnosis directly from the manufacturer.

Good luck, I hope that does work, though I do have my doubts considering the numerous posts here and other places I have read describing similiar problems as yours with little to no results.
