Customer Care Reps...WHY???

Just out of sheer curiosity. Why do customer care reps always tell customers to go in a store for a "free" upgrade? They come in looking for it and I mention the upgrade fee and they say oh I was never told about that. Not to mention stores do not have free phones for June. At least not in my market. So please, please don't send them here for a free phone.

see what happens, through customer care is that we usually tell the cust they can check into a store ( if they dont like our prices) generally from what i have seen stores and customer care have bascaily same sales prices, customers seem to stretch out what they are told to see if they can get any thing better, i have had lots of customers tell me a rep told them they could get the world and you konw that it just not the case

50% of the time, customers are making up what the reps said. They do the same thing to us at customer care, "the store said to call for a free upgrade."
Anything to get something free. But there are some reps who do push off the customer, and tell them to go to the stores to get a free device. I've heard it.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I do tell customer's they can get a free phone only through the web but that the upgrade fee still applies and I get the whole "i've been with you people for 20 years" speech. Yet the account says signup was in 2002. Go figure

Seriously...I've found it takes a certain tone to bring out the best/worst liars about what they were told. I got a guy yesterday who said the agent told him he had unlimited calling and that the 450 on his plan only referred to international LD and roaming...so why was he getting charged over 500.00 in overages?

It's because customers are lying sacks of worthless @#$@! I get the same thing with "I've been with you for years" and usually it's 2 years and they have been suspended for non-payment. I hate people. Guess I'm in the wrong profession.
