technically you don't. I work for a wireless provider and you don't need a credit card. you need a 2nd form of ID. Primary would be license or passport. Secondary would be employee ID, credit card, or ss card. for the record.

nope, in person. when we start the activation, it runs a credit check based upon their ssn#. and if something doesn't click, we have to call up crediting and they speak to the customer.

What I love is they announce "well let me tell you right now. I'm not going to give you my social security number or credit card over the phone."

"OK,sir, you'll need to go to a store." Of course, everyone employed by a store is a fine and decent person, while those of us who work over the phones sell the social security numbers of little old people to crack wh*res.

Ah, what a world.

Social Security numbers are highly confidential and legally protected data. Giving out your SSN# to any business is a large security risk no matter who you are.

No agent or rep needs your SSN# in person for a credit check. I always have my bank write a letter or have the credit bureau verify my identity for the credit check to prevent having to disclose such personal information.

It's the people who willingly disclose such information I am more concerned with.

Yes but also how much fun did the customer have waiting for you while you were on hold with AR regarding the credit check due to not being able to veryify SSN and instead must now ask for a deposit :p

I work for an exclusive agent and we require a credit card even in the store. You know about agent chargebacks right? If a customer cancels fore they have completed 181 active days of service, we get charged back, and if we get charged back, we take a loss on the phone right? so we have to charge to customer the remaining price of the phone(which has become a $200 fee). In my area there are more agent stores than corporate, so we see this kind of thing all the time.

Speaking of customers... I had one today that wanted a free phone without renewing their contract. Their threat was that they were going to go to the big red V, because they were promised a free phone there with no contract... I promised them that there would be a contract inv...
