Want a new Nokia Flip & upgrade my plan

Hi. I want to upgrade to the new family plan. It's just me and my husband. We have a very old plan, we share 250 minutes, and we get charged for roaming. Vacation time is coming, and we have already gone over our minutes slightly a couple of times, and we will be roaming during the summer. I'd like to get the new plan, because although in the end it's going to cost me $10 more, it's worth it for all the extra minutes and the no roaming charges.

The only thing holding me back is, we are both eligible for new phones, but I want a Nokia flip phone. I love my Nokia's, and it's all I want. Yet, I'd like a flip one! I don't see on here that Cingular will be getting one any time soon. I'd be willing to buy one off of Ebay if I had to. ...

The $18 fee is not a "switch to gsm" fee, it's an upgrade fee. Meaning that if you upgrade, you are assessed that fee. Also, I'm not aware of any fip nokia phones, current or recent. Nokia just doesn't do flips hardly at all. You could wait for the new N90 Nokia flip...but that will probably be a while still.....

They are offering (and have been for over a year) Nokia flips overseas. She could purchase one from ebay. I have heard that Cingular will be getting one soon...

If you purchase your own phone via Ebay or another third party, Cingular will charge you no fee for changing. Some stores may impose a fee for activating them, and you may also have to purchase your SIM card which goes into the phone.

When you change your plan, if you opt for the promotional features such as unlimited mobile to mobile, you will have to resign for a one year contract. However, you also have the ability to opt out of promotional features and not resign any sort of contract. If you choose this method, you can purchase a group mobile to mobile package for an additional $9.99 per month.

When you search for phones, be sure you get a GSM phone with 850 and 1900 Mhz. It will likely have other frequencies as well, but if ...

you are probably going to pay close to three hundred for the phone off of ebay, and you will have to call nokia and see if you can reprogram it so it works correctly for you. too much of a headache. my guess, since you are still tdma you aren't too phone savy? well, i think, if you are willing to pay that much for the phone, go to a cingular store and upgrade to maybe the 3120 or the latest model the 3220. you will get a great phone that cingular supports. and when and if they release the flip, buy that at full price. if you are looking for a phone with a ton of features, the new flip will be mid-range, you will get more out of the 6230. hearing that you only pay 29.99 a month, you aren't a huge user, i don't see paying that much just to get...

That's funny . . . because I prefer grey-market unlocked phones over the ones that are available through American carriers. The phones available in Europe right now are much better and cheaper than any of the ones available here.

I do think that you are right though that for some one who is not a 'phone geek,' that a grey-market phone could be a really bad idea. The WAP and MMS settings would have to be reprogrammed manually, and for the Nokia 6170, there are two versions available. Both are tri-band, but one has 850 and the other has 900 instead. Getting the wrong o...

I understand what you are saying about buying an unlcoked phone that cingular does not carry. I would only do that with a nokia because I feel they really do a great job with handling warranty issues.
