I'm thinking about trying to transfer from customer service to sales...anyone have any warnings or opinions for me? I'm mainly worried about the money issue.

Ya.....they will try to bend you over every chance they get.You get backouts which it is up to you to reconcile, but the catch is they give you 1 hour in the 1st week of the month to reconcile. Now if you have,say.... 25 customers backout,Do you think an hour is enough to research 25 lines to find out why???Then on top of that, if you do reconcile, 99% of your reconciles are declined.
We don't do upgrades any longer,no migrations,no ship phone only, so you get paid for new activations only. You also HAVE to make a 12% close ratio. That is the number of sales divided by the number of calls you take per day.
To be boldly honest,85% of this sales center rep's are looking for another job,NOT SALES RELATED.
We've lost our entire scheduling team ...

It would actually be in a corporate store. I don't think I'd ever be up for telesales. I'm also curious what the likelihood of being able to get my old job back would be, in case I'm not cut out for it.

Well, think about this, are you prepared to deal with a customer cusing you out face to face?

Your old job, ahhhh, you might get it back if they are hiring for that position, but if not......hahaha....your on your own

What an absolutely poor description of a sales job.

Sales can be very rewarding but I have one main recommendation, don't expect it to come easily.

You have to work hard at learning how to exceed customer expectations. That leads to referrals (something you really can't get in telesales) and dramatically more income.

If you are content to take what walks in the door then be prepared for slow times and serious ups and downs with income. If you have a strong referral base you will help avoid those peaks and valleys in commission and do quite well. I personally think store sales is rewarding and very worthwhile.

Then why not file a complaint to your Union. Isn't that why you pay them all those dues?

I'm in a blue center, no union, and as you probably know texas is a right to work state, so if you make a big enough stink about it the will come up with a reason to get rid of you. I'm just bidding my time till I find other employment. the commision pay is really off whack in the blue centers. they are still paying our commision checks out of a legacy att system, but all our sales are done in cingular systems, so alot of the stuff is not making it from one place to the other. for example for the month of may I have 191 activations after buyers remorse cancellations, the commision system shows 120 activations, I sold over $2300 in accesories, the commisions system shows a total of 2 for a grand total of $9.99, not one of my accesories were t...

As an employer I can tell you I can't just fire you for no reason, nor can I make up a reason. Now if an employee is making a stink and is not a model citizen otherwise, yeah, you'll get fired. Employers can get punished for these actions by having to pay higher unemployment insurance premiums to the state on ALL their employees.

If you don't have a union, file a grieavnce with HR. If that doesn't work, the state has agencies to protect people who don't get paid what they are owed.

I guess if you are leaving and don't care then none of this matters.

trust me, I've tried to go through the appropriate channels to resolve the pay issue with in the company, or course nobody directly in my chain of command is in charge of making sure we get paid properly and the only thing you ever hear no matter who you talk to is "we are aware of this issue and are working on it, dont let this be your driving focus" trust me, they will find a way to get rid of people who make too many waves. About a month and a half ago a rep was walked because when he read the recap there is a section that is supposed to be read "The first bill will have pro rated charges and minutes of use" and the rep explained what proration actually was then finished up with charges for minutes of use. So he got walked for not reading...

I am seriously conisdering making the move out of the call center into sales. Is it better to work for an auhtorized agent or a corporate store .

It depends . . .

Third party dealers are more laid-back to work for that corporate stores. There are authorized agents out there too who are pretty dishonest and unethical about how they do business, so just watch out.

Corporate stores (from what I hear) pay a little more than most agents do, but you'll have to put with more corporate 'crap.' They are generally a lot more demanding of their reps than third-party dealers as far as things like dress code and feature add-ons go . . .

It's sort of a trade-off. There are good things about working for both, and for both the SPECIFIC store that you work at will effect your experience a lot. I work for a good third-party dealer and I really like my job for the most part. I've consider...

Depends on the agent. I like to think I pay fairly, but I am also reasonably strict when it comes to free time. I expect reps to use their time to educate themselves, generate sales and keep up the store. Most good, money motivated reps do well at sales. Those that just like to take what walks in the door will usually not do well.

So here's my personal issue: I've been working in an Orange call center for nearly two years. I love working for cingular...I just don't like what I'm doing. I need more money to pay off debts and support my fiance and 10 week old daughter. I think I would have a lot to offer in a store sales position. I know the products well and I know the ins and outs of the company. I also like to consider myself one of the "good" reps that everyone tries to get when the call customer service. I guess I'm worried about having to push people into things that they don't want...as well as ending up making less than what I'm making now, which is only 10.10 an hour.

Now granted that's a good amount of money for the mississippi gulf coast, and out of range of being on welfare, but I figure if I can get three new activations a day for sales, I'll be making more than what I'm making per week right now.

Well,

I have never had a "good" rep who was worth anything long term who forced features and products on customers. The key to this business is word of mouth and referrals. I don't care how good or bad the promo is at the time, you can get business from referrals. If you force products and services, you alienate customers.

Now, on the other hand, a good rep is one who shows customers the benfit of those additional services AND shows the customer how it will benefit them in terms that make sense and are useful to that individual. If you don't properly qualify a customer, how do you know what they actually need or could use if you properly teach them. I saw a typical comment from someone here of "I don't show features during the sal...

well, you dont have to push people into things they dont want, generally they balk at price, but for most people the benefits of the extras out weigh the price as a lady called me back who got a phone for her 16 year old daughter and declined a text package.... $28 in text latter could have ben cut to $9.99 for a lot more included text than what was used!

i beg to differ! im not questioning if you a being treated unfairly or not being paid correctly, but orange call centers are getting the shaft as well!!!!!!! some of the legacy blue reps tend to forget that with the acquisition of ATT, the legacy orange call centers (at least telesales) were forced to change over to new systems also. we very rarely get paid correct commission! and it is almost impossible to reconcile.

moral to the story... grass isnt always greener on the other side. 🙄
