Upgrading Question

Hi. I have a simple question. If I choose to just upgrade my plan to a new family plan, that doesn't lock me into a new contract yet, right? You don't get locked into a new contract plan unless you purchase a new phone through Cingular, correct?

If you read any previous threads Phones are not the only thing that can lock you into a contract promotions can Family plans can or credits can lock you into a new contract. but changing your plans CAN MOST definitely get you into a new contract. Not always if there are no promotions taken or going to a plan that requires no contract.

Depends on your current situation. Do you already have two phones on a FT, and just want more anytime minutes? If so, there is no adding to your agreement.

Do you have one phone and are looking to add another? If so then the new phone will be a minimum of a one year and the existing phone depends on the remainder of your existing agreement.

Basically, if you are halfway thorugh your agreement and want a new plan, be it FT or whatever, you have to sign for one year to get the pricing promotion. If you have 8 months left on your 2 year agreement, technically you are only adding 4 months since the new agreement supercedes your old one.

All answers based on Central Region policy.

One thing to add to that is that the added one year contract does not affect your upgrade eligibility. So, if you've got eight months left on your two year contract, you'll still be able to upgrade your phone and get a new contract in five months, but if you choose to term before the end of the one year contract, you'll still be liable for the etf.
One thing that you might know texas: I heard that it is against FCC mandates to be under a contract for more than two years. Is this true, or have you ever heard of this?

That is not true.

The FCC does not govern to the extent that they allow or disallow contracts between parties. That is not within their scope.

As long as the customer is getting some form of consideration for signing said contract it is perfectly within standard business practices.

Cingular buisness pool customers can sign a 3 year contract if they decide to do so. The benefit...... an aditional discount off their monthly service.

If I am not mistaken, Verizon use to offer a 3 year contract. Rogers Wireless in Canada does the same thing.

A little trickier than I thought. Okay, here's more information.......

I have been a Cingular customer for YEARS. I currently have a family plan (just my husband and I). We are not currently in a contract. Thus, we are both eligible for new phones. Right now there is no phone that I want from Cingular. I do, however, want to upgrade to the new lowest family talk plan. I want the free roaming and the free m2m. So, from what I have read, that means joining into a new contract. I don't mind doing that, because I don't plan to ever leave Cingular.

So, now my question is about being eligible for a new phone. If we just upgrade the plan now and sign into a new contract, and in, say.....6 months, Cingular gets a phone we want, we ca...

Yes, if you just upgrade your plan now, it will extend out your contract, but that does not affect your eligibility for an upgrade, that depends on the last time you upgraded, and since you stated you are now out of contract you should be good to go 😁
