I can not - however - discern if this groupthink is a product of company filters used in communication, self-esteem issues, or other reasons.
What is apparent to me however - is that the viewpoint of the reps here is highly skewed.
The same reps who chastises company policy in one thread - immediately pounce customers in another.

We chasties the policies because of the way they make us treat the customer. If it were up to most of us here, we'd break P&P and help the customer the best we can provided that they are deserving. However, Cingular makes the P&P we hate but must follow. We don't like to, we have to. It's our job. That's what we get paid to do.

when signing a contract the customer signs a legal document not a misleading document. Cingular presents the terms and conditions in a way that customers can understand and a way that they can cover themselves. If they do not understand they should ask the sales rep before signing. It is that simple.
Secondly lets assume that the customer chooses the minium cingular price piont 39.99 monthly with a 2yr contract becuase they wanted a "free" phone. So lets see now that is 39.99 monthly for 24 months. (12 months in a year *2 for 2 years) What that means is that after those two years the customer will have paid $959.76 before taxes. that also assume they did not go over their min or incure any other extra charges, such as phone upgrades or data usuage.
