So yaa i was thinking, I should head down to my local gas station and infrom the clerk that i have been a loyal customer for many years, and then demand a new car for free. I'll sign a contract to only buy gas from them for 2 years. And then threaten to break the contract after one year if they don't give me another new car for free after one year. 😈

Sure let me know how it works out for you! Go to the grocery store, "I've been coming here for 3 years you should bend over backwards and kiss my @ss or I'll find another grocery store to shop at!" "What are you going to do to keep me?"

as far as the car goes...you forget, that trip to grandma's house that is 500 miles away....you dont want to spend any more money a week for that gas..and the gas station should eat the cost difference....

Don't forget sales.

How about I go to Burger King. I want one of the workers to come out & explain, in extensive detail, what each sandwich is & it's ingredients are.

Then when we are done, after wasting my time, the workers time, & not to mention taking this worker away from assisting paying customers.

At this point, I am going to tell the worker "I am just shopping around. And, by the way,Your Manager clocked you out before you came to explain all this to me, therefore you are not getting paid for taking this time out. But, I just wanted to see what you had to offer. I'mma go check McDonald's now, Thanxs"

Ya, that's fair!!!

🤣

Oh the shame - consumers attempt to make an informed decision for a one to two year obligation.

How silly.

No......the shame of the matter is a consumer that is too lazy to do the damn research themselves. I tell ya this, if I'm doing the research & doing the work for them, I should be the one to get the sale & get credit for it. I don't give out information freely. Ain't happening. You want information from me, well, we are setting up your service thru me also. Or the consumer can try option 2, do the damn research yourself.

The best research is done at Cingular Store...Who or what else is more relavant. Perhaps JD Powers...Nah Cingular suckes there....Maybe consumer Reports....Nope again Cingular not so good......I think especially in Cingulars case you had better hope the customer goes direc...

Many do not unserstand comissioned sales and how to do that job. You HAVE to give each PERSPECTIVE customer the same treatment whether or not they are buying today, tomorrow or never. The most successful Car salesman could teach you guys a thing or two....After all in the Customer perception pecking order you and car salesmen are neck and neck.
Ouch... that hurt. True. But it hurts. I get non customer's cal...

When a cust calls me and wants to know their mig options, I don't look at it has sales. I look at as more of a chance to educate the customer on a few things. I like the well informed customers out there, even if when they call the issue is never simple.

I should clarify that though. I don't mind educating them and if the BUY something from me greet. I really hate the "I want a free phone, and i want promo XY and Z becuase I'm special" approach. It just pisses me off that poeple would honestly expect to get something for free becuase they do something as simple as pay for their service.

Let me ask you a question. After 2 years gone by and the phone has more than paid for itself - why doesn't the carrier automatically decrease the monthly rates?

The reason you have to deal with all that **** is that carriers are too dumb (or too feeble) to deal honestly with a customer. They should offer phone financing for people who don't want to pay $300 at once and price the plans independently of equipment.

Finace options for the phone??? What like reducing it by more the 2/3's for a 2 year contract isn't enough? You need financing options as well. Dude you seriousely should look at living within your means.

He's right. The Carriers chumed for customers by giving away the farm. They set a precedent in the customers mind. Phones are free.....

The phone is valueless to the Carrier (as they freely give them away) NO OTHER SERVICE business gives away the gear to use the service except maybe Sat TV, but only because they have to to compete with cable who never gave TVs away.

The analogies are a stretch for sure. The service should be independent of the equipment. buy a phone from Wal Mart or Ebay THEN choose your Carrier and choose a plan.

The Carriers want the CONTRACT and the ONLY way to get that contract is to give away phones because they do not want to give away peak minutes. (see ATTWS) Customers and people in general rightly perceive ...

santasbluehelper - see kingfrog's reply - he's put it more clearly than I did.

I am living well within my (admittedly large) means - thank you very much. All I was saying that carriers should make it clear to the customer:

Your 2 year contract is 39.99/mo, of which 4.99/mo goes to pay for the phone we just gave you. Airtime only, should you choose it, is 35.00/mo.

I looked at Cingular's GoPickYourPlan offerings - 39.99 buys you 300/1000 minutes versus 450/5000. So I bring my own phone and get less airtime with less coverage for the same money??? How come???

in my humble opinion....

i think the burger king vs. mcdonalds scenario is hilarious 🤣

there is one sole reason we HAVE to be specific about sales...mystery shoppers. in my market, if we fail a mystery shop, we have to go to a training class held once a month. i'm sure it's like that in other markets too. i sure don't see fast food employees going to mystery shop/expectations training to learn to flip burgers better!

Nope they usually just get a sh!t blasting from the manager. And yaa i would imagine things get just as hairy in face to face sales.

That's what happens when cell phone companies give away deals like that. People start to expect them. Back when I first started service with SBC back in 2000, I would sign a 2 year contract, and after one year, I could upgrade, sign another 2 yr. contract, and get a new phone. Sometimes, the girl there would be nice and take a discount off my accessories. She gave me a free SIM card once, when Cingular burned mine (thought I lost the phone, was going to use an old Nokia for the plan. They said it'd be ok, and if I find my phone, they can transfer service back to it. They never said anything about destroying the SIM. I found the phone, called them up, and they said I needed to shell out $25 even though it was their fault, pretty lame i...
