The Word "Free" in Wireless
Is it me or does everyone get annoyed at this word in our industry. I mean the carriers did it to themself. Back in the 80s, phones would cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, then they came out with the penny phones or free phones and it has evolved to what it is today. The industry has created some of the worst consumers. They want it all for free. I mean, it's competitive but what a clusterf*ck. Just think how many times in a day you hear the word free from your customer or them wanting you to give out credits because "I'll switch", ooh...big guy! Don't say those words. i've noticed for july there will be no "free" phones in my market. i agree with you in explaining how the business operates. i had a guy come in the other day that took his phone to another store in another market and they put a "dummy" sim card in this guys phone and forgot to switch it back. then he comes to my store wanting a "free" sim card. he just wouldn't listen to me that i would lose $25 by "giving" him a new sim card. don't forget to mention "free" accessories too! 🙄

But if we dont give the customer's things for free and then change the rules and make them take responsibility for their actions "I didn't use all those minutes" or "credit back my roaming or I'll cancel" God what would I do in my centre at the Rez Desk. If I could't kiss a** for 8.5 hrs a day I would be sooooo cranky 😈

don't forget vm. that sounds weird but please read on from your friendly neighborhood techie.
a cust calls in. voicemail hasn't worked for a week. we either fix it or inform of an outage. cust wants credit for the week they didn't have voicemail. sorry it's a free feature. we can not credit for a free feature. proration for a week of zero is...zero! just about everyone on my team has had someone escalate over this. tempted to say "yeah i'll credit what you pay for it. there credit issued your bill is the same." they would definently escalate or cancel after that smart remark though. 😢 😉

Just remember, just cause you have a brand name car for 10 yrs, doesnt mean when you want a new one you can say, I have had this car for ten years and want to upgrade to a new car, can I get it for FREE. GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE. Sometimes I wonder if people are living in reality, or are just plain STUPID.
