Voice mail issues
I have a friend of mine who has a GSM phone and has been having some voice mail problems. The problem is for some reason about every week or two his voice mail quits answering and instead plays a message that says the user is not available. Customer service is called and the problem is fixed then in a week or two the problem comes up again. Any ideas or suggestions?

Is he hitting the Star * key several times when done with voicemail and then hanging up the call? This is a fix on TDMA service, I don't know if it holds true for GSM.

The issue is probably is the Cingular system. Right now it is going through some revamping and the call forwarding that directs the missed calls into voicemail is sometimes lost in one of the systems and can only be fixed if you can into customer care. So a call to 611 should fix the voicemail issue relatively quickly and hopefully the revamping with be done soon.

Another possibility is that his pilot numbers are getting erased. If he is using call forwarding at any time and selects unforward ALL calls it will clear his pilot number. Which forwards his unanswered calls to his mailbox

That's actually what I was referring too, the pilot numbers, I mean, but I figured unless you work here, a person usually doesn't know what we mean by pilot numbers 🙂 but yeah, that could also be a reason they get erased, accidental activation of call forwarding.
